Put my first pig down with a pulsar hd50a and it was awesome but on the Recon G2 with supressor it was dam heavy to keep lifting up. How do these units compare and thoughts on a monocular unit like the 19a and 38 a or s?

Here is the kill

I rented a 19a from Ultimate Night Vision, not bad, but definitely not a 50a. I'd recommend doing the same to try one out. I ended up getting a used ATN OTS 330 off ebay for my handheld, really like it, small and helmet mountable.

Thanks for the input. I was going to post in the classifieds for something but trying to get my dam post count up over 100. Not sure I dig that rule

Is the ATN OTS a handheld or a scope? Would you put it at the quality of the pulsar xd50 or just better than the 19a

look up www.ultimatenightvision.com and call and speak with tyler. He will fix you up and be able to answer almost all your questions about NV stuff. He knows his business.

It's a handheld monocular https://www.atncorp.com/thermal-cameras Mine is the x330 with the FLIR core, not the new Smart HD version ATN has with their own core which one might say is unproven so far.

Probably not too fair to compare it to a 19a as it is more comparable to the XD50a. Since mine was used, I picked it up for $2k, which is about what 19a's seem to go for.

so the ATN x330 and new version are more on par with a 50a?

I was excluding the new OTS altogether. The lens sizes are 19, 30 and 50 respectively, that's one answer. The OTS is the smallest of the three. The XD50a is the better of the three as it pertains to vision. $ for each certainly another. I rented a 19a and think my OTS is better, but that's to be expected.

Go to Ultimate Night Vision and rent a 19a since you own the 50, if you don't like, you can use the rental amount towards buying a 50. If you want small or helmet mount, look at the
FLIR-based OTS.

I'd always go with an OLED display whenever possible. Much better contrast.

I've got an LD19s and LD38s. Love them both. FYI, there is an Ebay seller that is Pulsar/Sightmark that sells new and factory refurb units that carry 1 year warranty. I got the LD38s for $1350 new last year and just recently got a LD19s for $756. OLED displays. Only downside for might be the 9hz refresh rate, but makes absolutely no difference when used to scanning at night. I use them to detect, then go to the gun with Simrad to shoot and ID. Both have been great.

My OTS is 9hz as well and I think it's fine.

Here's a YouTube video that shows it side by side.

9hz is no big deal unless you're trying to scan from a moving vehicle. I tried it with the 9hz scout before while my buddy was driving the ranger and it gave me a headache. If you're hunting from blinds mostly then might as well save your money and get a 9hz unit.

I think I have changed my plans. I am going to look at an Armasight Zues 336. its about the same size and weight as a handheld and about the same quality as a pulsar xd50 and then i have the option to mount up a second thermal. Thoughts?

Thats a great side by side comparison. I do plan to use from moving vehicle so I think i will need a higher refresh rate
