I am wondering if there is anyone in the Tyler, Troup, Jacksonville area that would like to team up on some coons this winter? Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks...

Sounds like a heck of a deal there! Good luck to you Milton. I'd join you, but I'm a little too far away.

Hoytman that sounds great! I have never used the Conibear traps. I used the no. 2 Victor double long springs mainly. I see you are from Hopkins County... is that around Sulphur Springs? I am going to try to catch a few this winter after deer season is over. Message me more about the traps or where I could reach you. Thanks again...

Sounds good for you milton1allen. What are hides bringing now days. I used to trap a few decades back, and loved doing it. Then the market dropped out and I just didn't get back into it.

The prices are very low, if you can sell them at all.

I haven't trapped in years either. I am mainly wanting to set about 15 or 20 traps out on Friday afternoons and camp out overnight to check the next morning. If I am catching a lot I may repeat the process on Saturday night too.

It might not be "worth it" financially but I trapped my first season since I was a kid a year back and had a blast! I even find one of my old trap stakes from when I was a kid at an old beaver set.
Good luck to you! If only fur would come back into style!

Feel free to give me a shout anytime if you have any questions about fur handling or trapping in general, I might not run a route on the east side of the state this year but the fur markets in a real slump right now. In all honesty your coons will only be worth a dollar or two. I'll still be buying them for around that but there's many buyers across the country that have closed their doors. If the best finished coon in the country are only bringing $10 at international auctions then that will somewhat put the market in perspective. Your coons will grade central or western semi and both of those sections averaged under $3 at the auction houses last year. I'm advising most of my trappers not to focus on coon. You won't turn profit this year unless you have a truckload of cats plain and simple. If your not worries about the money and just enjoy it then whack em an stack em. Just one of those times in the fur market pendulum. Give me a shout anytime If anyone has any other questions. 361-793-6706

I was thinking of getting back into trapping some. After looking at the prices listed I may want to spend my limited time else where. I enjoyed trapping and miss it at times. I need to do it just to teach my grand kids how to do it. In this crazy world they may need the knowledge some day.

Invest in some DPs! I love mine and they're much quicker to set than the footholds I have.

I bait them using a $3 bag of catfood and it just flat out works. Had the same bag for 2 weeks now too.
