You will have fun.. I hunted archery mule deer but shot a javelina as it was part of my bag limit. hunt near water... I sat up on a hilside about 300 yards away and above the small ground tank.. I saw them working through the brush since i was elevated.. I proceeded to stalk up and very quietly got to the edge of the tank removed my shoes and got closer.. I dont think their eyesight is the greatest but get downwind if possible. I smoked one on the water hole, was very fun.

That's a long drive from Temple to shoot one of those nasty critters.

Whatever compartment y'all end up in, watch over any tanks, guzzlers, or the river for them traveling to and from.

The deer in that picture looks like a whitetail, was it? At Elephant Mountain on last year's hunt I saw as many whitetails as I did mule deer, actually, maybe the edge went to whitetails. We could kill either.

It was a mule deer, just had a whitetail frame on the antlers. This pic is at Black Gap and I think it may have been same, 1 mule deer or whitetail.

Thanks for the help. I've never shot a javelina so I'm excited about the chance

Not a Javelina hunt, but if you have never been there, my old thread on Black Gap has a lot of pictures of it.

Anything close to the park as far as motels or anything? I saw stillwell store has camping and rv sites, but if we have to camp I would assume just to do it at the park.

We hunted there a couple years ago and they had camp sites inside the hunt compartments.
