I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4 that is in need of a new skid plate - the stock one was damaged on a recent trip to my place and they were unable to re-attach it at the last oil change.

I was surprised at how thin the metal was on the skid plate and the dealership wants $400ish for a new one.... Anybody been through this before or have recommendations on where I could find a good solid aftermarket replacement?

I just went through the same thing with my 2013 Tundra and bought one from Budbuilt. I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but the thing is much thicker and heavier than the factory one I demolished last year. I bought the two piece, front and mid engine combo for $349 and after tax and shipping, it came out to be right around $400. They don't list it on their site, but if you skip the power coating, the color is actually stainless steel. All the pictures on their site have red plates and I wasn't sure what color I was going to get until I opened the box. I placed the order on July 18th and it was delivered on the 30th. So about two weeks to fabricate and ship. I thought about getting another one of the factory guys, but when the dealership told me it would be $350 plus tax, I figured I might as well buy something better.

Thanks,
Rich

Ebay motors has some used factory skidplates at a discount, aftermarket plates and also the mounting bolts.
