 Gun Safe in Garage?

Looking for some input/experience. I am finally going to breakdown and move my guns from upstairs locked closet to a safe. I dont have a GOOD place to keep it inside (wife approved place anyway!).
The garage on the other hand has plenty of space.
Anyone have experience good and bad?
Looking at a Liberty Fatboy 48 or 64 gun, and will certainly keep a dehumidifier in it.
I live in the Houston area, so plenty of Humidity.
Thoughts?

I put one of those electric rod dehumidifiers in my garage safe ( with tons of humidity) and it has keep all my guns rust free for almost 9 months now.

This is just me personally, but I've had a gun safe in terms garage. I bribed my wife into letting me bring it inside. Reason being, is I found it to be a security concern. My kids are always riding their bikes and the garage is left open. Passers-by always breaking their necks to look back and see it. Be sure to bolt it down. But yes the humidifier works great BTW.

I have mine in the back corner with a large workbench in front of it and luggage and a few things beside it, so that you cannot view it from the street with the door open. Bolt it down, add dehumidifiers and you're good to go.

IMO, temperature and humidity variations are too great to keep firearms in a garage. I was able to get me wife to agree to letting me put our's in the bedroom by letting her pick one based on its appearance. I found a nice looking flat screen TV stand and moved the TV from the wall to the top of the safe.
I think getting my wife to recognize the safe would be used to protect other valuables helped sell her on it as well. If your wife has expensive jewelry or heirloom items, it should be no-brainier. Her valuables are well protected and more quickly available.

Bolt it down, get dehumidifiers, build a cabinet around it for camouflage.

I wouldn't do it. I have seen what garage heat can do to plastic parts. It it's not cheap and properly insulated the plastic is not affected at all. When I pull my guns out of the safe in the middle of the summer they are never hot to the touch or even noticeably warm.

Bolt it down, by dehumidifier rid if you want, and let it be. If a thief wants it bad enough he will get it, even if it's inside the house.

Nevermind, now that I think about it....the plastic parts I was thinking of had been left in the garage attic for a few years. It was shocking to see plastic basically disintegrate and become brittle to the touch. I keep a few cheapo guns in the garage but I would never keep anything high-end in there.

My workshop is uninsulated, and the temp extremes and humidity swings are very large. With the proper size dehumidifier, these things do not effect the interior of the safe at all.

I keep my high-end guns inside the home where theres a dog, motion detection alarm system, motion detection camera system and security bars on the doors that would slow down or deter a thief. I cant say the same for my garage.

Yep mines stays in the garage with no dehumidifier and haven't had any issues. It's been in the garage now for two years. I keep meaning to put a big dehumidifier in there but really don't feel the need to now.

* Humidity - I don't totally buy into the dehumidifiers with how much humidity we have but even if I did...
* Temperature - maybe your garage is climate controlled
* Dirt/dust - the safe itself and the contents - safes are not airtight
* When the garage door is open can the safe be seen?
* Go ahead and bolt it down - that will stop some but not all, I can still wrap a chain or strap around it and pull it out with my truck.
* Do you park vehicles outside that have garage door openers in them?
* Do you use the bar lock on your garage door when that vehicle with the opener is parked outside?
* Maybe the garage has a window. Easy to get past a window.
* Does the house have a security system... that includes coverage of the garage door and window?
Too many factors/concerns and too much money. The garage gets zero consideration from me.

Mine has been in a garage for almost 4 years. Bolted to the ground, keep fresh desiccant in it. No rust, no issues.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

It might be fine in the garage, but mentally, I can't make myself do it for all the reasons previously posted. It seems like too harsh of an environment to even take a chance, regardless of what I read on the contrary.

This statement is right on the money. I had a Browning ProSteel safe lock and jam on me recently and after several days of speaking with various locksmiths and Browning I resorted to cutting it open myself. I was honestly pretty surprised how simple it was. This of course was after several long conversations with Browning and confirming how/where to cut to do as minimal damage as possible so I could possibly "fix" it. The safe will deter the thief and/or delay them long enough for law enforcement or the homeowner to interrupt their activities....
