Pulled my AR10 out after hunting all last season and pert of this season with it. have learned to trust this rifle on: Deer/multiple Pigs/turkey/bobcats/squirrel/coon/rabbits pretty much anything I can get sights on.
I have been trying to keep it clean : but that Red West TX dust gets into every nook & cranny . any edge or screw hole / any kind of indent anywhere on a AR rifle . I spent the whole time watching Olympics tonight cleaning and would go look under a bright light and find more & more. The internals were fine just anything on the outside.
Next time I will take the upper to work at the airport and use a air spray wand with jp4 and power blast every nook & cranny then wipe it down and let it dry in the sun.
when you vets were in the desert how did you clean & lube your rifles

I use my leaf blower to get the main dust off then use q tips for the small hard to reach areas.

Garden Hose with very soft brush (I use a ladies horse hair make-up brush) Air dry or Dry with compressed air Light re-oil on key parts/components
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Blow it off with a compressor or canned air, then if its really dirty and you're feeling lazy, put it in the dishwasher - no soap.

when I was on my all expense paid sandbox vacations, i only worried about dirt/grime in or around the chamber, barrel, bolt, and important moving parts. i found that keyboard duster always worked. store it with a light coat of CLP, covered if you can.

would a parts cleaner at an auto repair shop work?? hot solvent, vibrating, then blow it dry with the compressed air gun?? If not, I would strip it, spray all parts with brakeleen (degreaser) , soak in Varsol, scrub if needed then compressed air dry. Or just give it to me and build u a new one

I use aresol brake parts cleaner once then air compressor. Hornady One Shot after that. Awesome stuff. Obviously strip it first.

It works great to drop in your BCG or pistol parts. I've used it with mineral spirits. Even the orderless mineral spirits still stink like hell so I'll probably just fill it with simple green once this stuff is used up.

Mixes with dust to make a paste. And that's when you pour more oil on it.. my guns don't get cleaned--they get oil changes. And they work.
