anything wrong with taking a marlin 336 in 35 remington, putting a night vision scope on top and handing it to a left handed 73 yo newbie hog hunter and getting after hogs at night? Seems like a pretty darn good set up to me...

If your NV can handle .308, then it should be able to handle 35 Rem just fine. Much/most weapon NV is rated for .308.
