Alright,
For those of you that carry, what are your platform preferences? I have a full size 1911 and am in the market for another smaller pistol that would be a little easier to conceal. I am interested in the Glock 43 right now but I'm unfamiliar with many models of sub compacts and I have open ears on everyone's opinions about makes/models/calibers.

I'd go to a range that lets you rent multiple guns. Pick some sub compact 9mm guns and see which you like best. All of the striker fired will feel totally different than a 1911. Find what fits your hand and shoots best for you. Make sure to field strip it and put it back together before you buy it. Test holsters at gun shows.

That's the most practical advice I can offer.

Oh, and get a good belt. I like beltman belts, that's just me.

I really like the new Whalter CCP 9mm or i think it comes in a 380. I have large hands but fits comfortably and is really accurate.

Any of the mid size to compact Glocks work great. I mainly carry a G29 in 10mm. With the latest political climate, I've been carrying my full size G20 in 10mm with 2 full size spare mags on me. Since open carry is GTG, I could care less if I print.

I've found the g43 to be my favorite of the compact nines. However it is a little longer then the pocket nines. I'd guess 3/8" longer without looking at the specs. If you want more rounds, the Ghost Inc. +2 is solid.

That said, You'll probably go with what flips your switch regardless. Not a bad thing.

I am a big 1911 fan, just love the stopping power of a .45acp. My CCP is a Springfield XDS in .45. It is small enough to conceal easily, and has an extended 7 round magazine that lengthens the grip a bit for those with a little larger hands. I have put over 1000 rounds through mine with no jams, a great little pistol.

What others said.

Caliber choice is all on you and what you can shoot well with. There is hardly any difference between the common calibers.

S&W M&P .40c. I don't like safeties on my carry gun, .40 is just a shortened 10mm. (I know, just like .380 is just a shortened 9mm, but apples to oranges)

I have been carrying and shooting a Springfield XD subcompact 9mm for the last 6 years. Several thousand rounds and no problems.

Like others have said, a pistol is a very personal choice and you should try several before buying.

I'm a big S&W fan. My daily carry is an M&P Shield. I have both the 9mm and.40 I switch out. Other than the M&P I would look at a Glock G-43. Thats just me.

Carried a Xds .45 3.3" for a year but haven't carried it yet since i got a S&W 442 a couple months ago. With the clip grips I slip it in my waistband and forget it's there.

Ive got a XD 45 4" service model with 13 rd mag and a Springfield 1911 Operator in 45. Usually in the summer I carry the XD but in the winter when its not hot I carry the 1911. I don't worry about concealing now that we have oc. I don't open carry but I don't worry about printing either.

G-36.

Best CC for me. A .45 with a punch and with flock reliability and no safety, plus very narrow. I can wear it IWB all day with no trouble.

I have a Windham Weaponry AR15 I carry most days. On my lighter days I carry a S&W Shield in 9mm. And the difference in the 9 and the .40 isn't apples to oranges. The .40 has about as much penetration as a .380.

I think the S&W shield is the perfect combination of size, capacity, and caliber options. I carry my shield in .40 every day.

If ultimate comfort and concealability is your main goal, a Ruger lcp or one of little bitty Sig .380s are great. My wife has an lcp, and I really like it.

HiPoint is fine. I'd stay away from Raven and jiminez though.

I usually carry a 19 or 43. Just got a .327 fed mag 6 shot LCR so I can just throw it in my pocket.

Fortunately at least Raven is defunct. Jimenez is still in business and is known as one of the "Ring of Fire" companies. Bad juju. Contrary to popular belief HiPoints do run reliably, my issue is they are the most unergononomic handgun I've ever held.
