After three consecutive years of ideal rainfall and breeding conditions for deer and turkey, experts are predicting outstanding hunting success for both species when seasons begin.

Alan Cain, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department project leader for deer, says the Texas deer population is the highest it's been in years, with around 4.12 million animals roaming deer country.

"There are currently a huge mixture of all age class deer across the state, because we have seen good fawn crops for the past three springs. I'm also expecting the 2016-2017 to be a banner year for heavy-antlered bucks," he said.
