What does everyone see in this gun? I inherited one recently and took it to the range this weekend and shot it a couple of times. I was shooting the Hornady critical defense .410 rounds so maybe the .45 lc wouldn't be as bad, but that thing kicks like a dang mule. Would never get rid of it so it will stay in the truck for self defense, therefore only being shot when absolutely necessary. But I guess my question is, why are they so popular?
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Versatility is a big part of the Judge's popularity. Try it with cowboy action loads for the 45LC and recoil will be much less. 410 bird shot loads work well for snakes at short distances. Federal makes a load for it with 4 000 buckshot balls that pattern very closely at short ranges and I have used that on hogs at close range.
Revolvers are loud especially with short barrels and there is noise that escapes from the barrel cylinder gap also, nature of the beast.

kmon1 pretty much hit the nail on the head on this one. I bought mine strictly for snake control. 2.5" 410 shells with #6 shot are death on snakes out to about 10'. The 45 LC rounds dropped a 150 lb hog in it's tracks at 20 yards. Loud? Yes, they are. But when I'm standing next to a 5' rattler, I don't hear the gun, I hear the snake.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

if the Judge kicks too hard for you that means you're not holding the gun tight or not hold it right
it should kick more than a 357 and less than a 44M
i'd concentrate on grips

I use to have one my wife enjoyed shooting it and could do it with one hand easily using the same ammo. I wish I still had it but traded it away.

I enjoyed having mine when I fished a swamp where I lived in East Tx. I kept it in the tackle box in my boat and shot a lot of snakes with it. I traded it when I moved back out West. It's too heavy to carry and not good for anything other than carrying in a vehicle.

They are not my cup of tea but are popular.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I've got one and so does my son. I carry mine as a "vehicle gun" when I travel to nasty, metropolitan areas, where car jackers might lurk, loaded with #6 shot. Out in the wilds, when just poking around, I carry it with three #8 shot shells for snakes, and two 45 Colt shells for the feral hogs I may encounter. I always carry it with me with five 45 Colts loaded in it when I go hog hunting or am running the hog traps. To say the least, I'm a fan of the Judge!! It ain't a whole lot of fun to shoot all day at the range, but that ain't what I bought it for.

I probably wasn't being fair to the Judge, I was also shooting Dad's FN 5.7 and my S&W M&P .45 that day.
