I've been looking for a MILSURP rifle for a few months now and I ran across a Czech VZ24 at Jackson's Armory in Snyder Plaza by SMU. Since my wife is 2nd gen Czech I wanted something from BRNO. Wanted $400 for it but I traded a shotgun and got out the door for $216 w/tax. Gun is pretty much a beater as it was made for the Romanian Army in 1940. I did notice he has a ton of military if anyone is looking, saw several M1's and others. Barrel is kind of rough but it does have good rifling. Just needs some TLC. If I can remember to get to Fry's Elec. and pick up an SD reader I'll post pictures.

Can't wait to see the pictures. I have a fairly large collection of milsurp mausers myself.

It will make a fine weapon

I had one of those; 1939 Romanian. It was kind of a beater and the bore was maybe 65% but it still shot really well.

Its hard to beat the 8mm Mauser! My first milsurp was a Yugo M-24/47 (pretty much the Yugoslavian version of your's). I loaded some 200 gr. Speer Hot-cors and took her hunting. My first prey were two Barbado rams. Shot clean through both of their shoulders with one bullet at 125 yards. Needless to say, I was sold on the 8x57!

Most milsurp 8x57 like the longer, heavier projectiles. 200 grain are a beast!

Yup, love me some 8x57JS. Makes a fantastic pig round, hard hitter. The 198 grainers hit like a freaking freight train, though I prefer the 175 grain Sierra PH's for all around use. I have a Yugo 24/47 and a Husqvarna 96 that are tack drivers with them. My wartime k98's prefer the heavier longer bullets.

Love my Mausers. Yugo 48 and a Swede. And looking for more! 8x57 is good shoulder exercise. Haha. Where would we be today without Mauser and Browning?
