I was reading on a few other forums the other day about different attractants people have used. A couple that caught my eye were corn chips and grape kool-aid mix. The corn chips I can understand, but the grape kool-aid kind of threw me. They said you mix the powder with corn and place a pile on the ground. What I am wondering is if any of you have heard of this or tried it, and any other odd attractants you have heard of people using.

People seem to think if a deer is eating it, it's an amazing attractant. Regular corn would probably work just as well. There is a reason corn is the most popular attractant. It works.

I was fly fishing the Conejos River in Colorado. I left my backpack with a open bag of Fritos on the bank. At some point I turned around and a 6 point mulie was finishing off my Fritos. Then he followed me back to camp that evening and pestered me into giving him another bag!

I add a quart grape kool-aid in my deer feeder on occasion.

The house deer will eat anything from Taco shells, bread, cake. The list is long.

We had an old man that would hang an old transistor radio in a tree tuned to static at a medium volume. I guess the deer were curious and would come up to see what it was.

First thing, in the area you hunt what is typical food source, second don't use apple flavored corn if no apples in area - different smell third don't over think the process .

I don't know that I agree with only using Apple flavored corn if there are apples nearby. I feed corn, and there aren't cornfields near by.

The deer will come in to the vanilla, I cut with water, put in a spray bottle and spray the bushes.
There are no vanilla vines in the desert but the deer like the smell.

Just put up feeder with nothing in it. No corn, no Skittles, no nothing. Deer will come to it anyway.
We did this one day with a brand new feeder that had never had feed in it. We set it up with the intent to fill it the next day with corn. When we returned we had six whitetail walking around looking for munchies. I thought it was funny that we have trained the deer so well that they know what a feeder looks like.

I stick with what works. No doubt there are new things in the marketplace for folks to buy, but you can't beat my program! food banana2

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

Thanks for all the feed back. I typically just use plain corn in the feeder, but last year chopped up 4 apples and placed them under the feeder and it brought in more deer than I have seen. I was just curious if anyone had heard of the grape kool-aid. I might try it a couple weeks before season and see what I catch on the trail cams.

My mom used to get old produce from the super market she worked at and the deer would eat the corn and the apples and pears and everything you would think a deer would like to eat pretty much rotted. Now we have hogs and well most people know what hogs will do. lol.

Apple corn works very well in east Texas and as far as I know there are no apple farms around. So I'd scratch that

Nothing works for me early if we have acorns. Once they are gone they seem fine with just corn.

Did anyone read the article a year or two ago where Texas A&M found that human urine made deer curious attracted them? Crazy. They were probably pinned deer and Im not gonna start pissing myself when i hunt, but I did think it was interesting.
