Do any of you guys use steel cartridges when loading? If so why?

So what are the differences between brass and steel cartridges?

Thanks,

I aint a reloader but I would think that steel cases would be hell on reloading equipment. Brass is soft. I don't even think I have ever heard of anyone reloading steel.

It is possible and it has been done, but I have no interest in pursuing it. Ya never know, though...one day it may come down to scrounging steel 5.56 and 7.62x39 cases to reload. Sure hope not.

You can reload steel but it is more work and finding the correct primers is another issue, Cases are harder to size and special decapping tools are needed. Some reloading companies make at least the decapping piece.

I will stick with brass cases for my reloading.

I have fired steel cases and I swear I could feel the extractor hesitate trying to extract them.
I have reloaded steel, and the bullets hit outside where the brass case ammo was hitting and they made a larger group. Only played with it once and decided it had no benefit.
The only steel case ammo I still use is for my AK.
I can reload brass cases for less than purchase price of steel case ammo, and I can use premium bullets and tune the load for my rifle.
If I shoot it, I reload it (except for the AK where I figured I might shoot 500 rounds in the remaining few years I have left, so I bought a box of 1000). Didn't buy it for accuracy and steel cases are probably what it was even designed with.

I did a test batch of boxer primed steel wolf 223. I lubed the necks and spray my homemade sizing lube on them. I noticed they were considerably harder to size but still doable. I reduced my charge about 10% .

The ones i loaded all functioned well. It can be done.
