My dad got this gun over the weekend and he would like any information he can get. This is the only pic I have at the moment, but he said he'll send better pics later. Serial number is 69535. Thanks fellas.

The serial number indicates 1914, and it has an aftermarket magazine.

That pic is really bad. Hard to tell much without some detailed hi-def pics of all the parts. I have seen guns that had a old slide or frame and a bunch of cobbled together parts. They were trying to sell them for vintage prices.

They were trying to sell them for vintage prices. I know the pic is bad. I'm going up there for opening day of dove season and I'll get good pics. He said he has the original mag too.

Hard to tell but I believe the slide and frame are from different pistols. The hammer doesn't look correct for a 1914 vintage. I carried one for several years in the Navy and I cannot remember a single example that was 100% Colt, Remington Rand, etc...all had been rebuilt at least once. I did qualify with a very nice example that had been "gunsmithed" by the ships small arms Gunners Mate...that is an aftermarket magazine as mentioned above and the slide may have been reblued...have fun and shoot the heck out of it...

rick I think the last time the US Armed Forces ordered 1911s(other than the new colt M45s) was 1954, but they were in use until ~1985. Wouldn't surprise me in the least that they would have been refurbished, rebuilt, or armorerized in that time.

I worked as an armorer temporarily, we had a 100% Ithaca built 1911A1, that was factory tight. How we ended up with it in 1976, is a mystery, most were sloppy and had mixed parts.

In 1971 I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, since I was a Comm Ctr Specialist, and we had no comm center, they made us MP's. First time I qualified with the 1911's they assigned us it sounded like a baby rattle. Thought it would fall apart if I shot it, but it shot true and I qualified expert. Love me some 1911's
