I heard a bunch of yowling and growling last night, and figured a few feral cats had gotten together for a fight. I grabbed my 17HMR with it's old red spotlight and snuck out onto the front porch. Lo and behold, the noise was being made by a trio of masked bandits who appeared to be having some sort of disagreement. I selected the largest one and put him down. The other two, instead of running off, started attacking the one I had just shot! So I took out number two. The third one, still miffed at his companions, hustled away and then came back to bite the leg of one of his dead buddies! So I invited him to Raccoon Heaven and he took me up on the offer. I've never seen such strange behavior before; have any of you?

Never seen anything like that in person. I have seen turkeys attack dead turkeys on tv.

I have seen bucks go after a downed companion; turkeys do the same; and feral hogs will start feeding on their dead friends before they've had their dying quiver. I'd just never seen that behavior in 'coons, particularly at such close range with light, muzzle blast and sound. Could it be the heat/drought difficult environmental conditions that's triggering this kind of rather bazaar behavior?

Great story. Love it. The .17 is a pretty cool round.
