I want just a fun range gun, 1911 in 9mm I'm not a 1911 fanatic, this is only my 2nd one. I just want a decent shooter. Do I spend the bucks on a Ruger or Springfield or save a couple hundred and get an Armsocor or one of their brands imported?

I bought a Colt m1991 in 9m last summer. Outstanding firearm. I had an imported 1911, RIA, and it was a POS. I wouldn't ever own another. I know folks who say they are great, but mine sucked. Actually, every firearm I have ever bought that I cheaped out on, I regretted. I don't do that anymore.

I'm getting the new Ruger as fast as i can slip money out from under the boss's nose. Seen them on gun broker as low as $620-650. I have 5, or is it 6 now, 1911's and love them all. Kimber, Ruger, S&W and Para double stack. Proven platform that has lasted the test of time, wars, and millions of gun owners. They are so much fun to shoot and work on if you like that sort of thing. Don't forget Colt. They have a 5" 9mm that was going for $770 or so at Allen show a couple of weeks ago. It has the blue/black g10 grips. Good looking pistol.
Best of luck

there is a LGS with the Ruger for $725 I have not seen them on GB much cheaper. I figure you have to find one on GB for at least $50 less than a store in order to come out
Handgun shipping is around $30 plus transfer fee
I guess I'll hold out for the Ruger or another good one. The Ruger is a Commander size, are there many out there that are full size?

Having previously owned a perfectly functioning 9mm 1911; I just ask WHY? You give up, in many instances, power and potential reliability.
1911 = 45acp.
Anything else is a compromise.
If you want a GREAT 9mm single action, get a CZ75 or the many clones.

I had a RIA Tactical 9mm that was awesome. Dead reliable and accurate too. Just for a range toy I don't see you being disappointed with the RIA. The recoil level is practically zero with a 9mm 1911, just plain fun to shoot!

okstatefan, despite being an OK State fan, has a good point about the CZ75, which is either at the top of the heap for 9mm autos, or pretty close to it.
Having said that, I do not see what is supposed to be wrong with a 9mm 1911, they just put a lighter recoil spring in there and it works just like it is supposed to.
The 1911 is really a very flexible design.
Kind regards, charlesb

If you want a GREAT 9mm single action, get a CZ75 or the many clones. So then shouldn't all semi autos be a .45?? The capacity difference is relatively the same, and the .45 is much more powerful.

I love my Colt Defender 9mm carry gun. Had two light primer strikes during break in, the last 1000rnds have been flawless.
That said the recommendation of the CZ 75 is a great one. I'd recommend the CZ 75B SA. The triggers on these can be made outstanding.

I have the Springfield RO 9mm government version, it has about 6,000 rounds through it never had a miss feed or a single issue with it. I bought 4 additional factory magazines and shot the piss out of it.
Excellent accuracy as well, I did lightly stone and polish the trigger parts and it's rather impressive.

Sparky, I quit shopping at Academy; but that is where I got my 9mm 1911. It was a Citadel, an Armscore brand like Rock Island. It was a nice pistol, government size, with nice front and rear serrations. IIRC, it was $329+. You might call a local store and see if they still carry it. Here's a video link to that particular model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QSM0uP1lks

Since "fun range gun" is your goal, take a serious look at the RIA 22 TCM! 1911 Model that comes w/ interchangeable 22 TCM and 9mm bbls. http://armscor.com/firearms/tcm-series/P_102

9mm in 1911 is just a fun pistol to shoot. I have several 1911s in both 9mm and 45. With the price of ammo and reloading components being what they are, and the fun of a 9mm, most of my range trigger time is 9mm 1911.
Kimber Pro Carry, Springfield, and RIA Tactical are all quality pieces. My personal favorite of these is the Kimber.
The comment on the CZ75b SA was spot on too. Fantastic trigger on a double stack 9mm.

How is the trigger on that Beretta 92A1? I have only ever shot one, and the trigger was super long.

Amen! We should all stop shopping at Academy. Lame move on their part. I won't even buy a pair of shoes for my kid there anymore.

Check out the Citadel. I have one the Commander size in 45acp and it's awesome for the money.
