Don't get caught with it if you don't have a permit from TP&W....Just say'n. Unless they changed the rules to live possession.

Correct,
Unless properly licensed he can't transport
or possess live raccoons in Texas.

Giving a man a ticket for having a live coon in order to train a hound would be pretty chicken s#!+. I've trapped 100s of coons in my life to train dogs and never once had any problems. In the good old days coon hunters would get together and have treeing contest and water races with their dogs. All which requires a live coon to do. Guess them days are over? You can legally buy rolling cages to put a live coon in to train a hound but can't legally possess a live coon??? hammer

JTMEEKS I would not be overly concerned about it. Maybe just call Moses or one of the other ones up and talk to them. I'm betting they have bigger fish to fry than chasing down a man trying to train a coon dog..

Makes you wonder why they sell live traps.
I know many people that think they are doing the right thing by re-homing a city coon to someone's place in the country, dang criminals.

Don't shoot the messenger. I, same as my grandfather was a houndsman and have trained several dogs with live coons, but regulations and times have changed. Anything potentially illegal posted on social media usually generates calls to report them. I'm just trying to keep him and 2Beez out of trouble considering he has posted his request on the public internet. And the info for anyone else that does not know. Ronnie, good advice at this point for him to talk to the game warden for his county to find out exactly what they will allow him to do. up

Buy and Bust
A Gonzales County game warden and a Guadalupe County game warden teamed up with a special operations sergeant to set up a buy/bust operation in Gonzales County. The investigation was a response to an Operation Game Thief call the wardens received a few weeks prior about an individual selling wild-caught raccoons over the Internet. The wardens’ investigation revealed the suspect did not possess a current furbearing animal propagator’s permit. The wardens successfully caught the suspect in the illegal act of selling several live, wild raccoons. Cases are pending against the seller.
