Going with 23" sendero contour with octagon profiling. 1-8".
Actions availble to use: Mdl 7 and 1936 mexican mauser. Both have excellent triggers.
Graphite black cerakote on all metal parts.
Stock: maple with ebony grip and forend.
Any real world difference in ballisitcs. I have plenty of quality brass for both. Very familiar with 260 and 6.5 cm. No experience with the swede, but inherited plenty of norma brass.

From my understanding the Swede has slightly more case capacity, but if you intend to seat heavy bullets out far it is best served in a long action.

Hard to beat a classic caliber in a classic action. I vote 6.5 Swede in the Mauser action.

From my understanding the Swede has slightly more case capacity, but if you intend to seat heavy bullets out far it is best served in a long action. 6.5x55's cannot be chambered in a short action. The case is too long. Sako(and maybe someone else I don't know about) makes what they call an intermediate action that they chamber a couple of cartridges for, namely the 6.5x55 and 7x57. Everyone else that makes a 6.5x55 uses a long action. I work at a gun store and American made 6.5x55 ammo is cheaper as a rule than .260 Remington. It is also not loaded as hot as .260 most of the time. Hornady and HST make a pretty hot load though. Europe. Made Swede ammo is hotter usually. If loaded to their full potential the Swede will run faster and you don't have issues seater longer bullets with it. If you want to seat longer bullets in a short action then a 6.5 Creedmoor is your best bet. I have a CZ 550 American 6.5x55. It is my favorite rifle.

Yep, the intermediate action being used for the swede and 7x57. If i did go swede and mdl 7 it would be single shot. Could go cm but then id need to get about 300 pcs of brass, and dont wanna spend the money on more brass.
The case cap is about 10% greater on the swede if memory serves me right.
I just think it would be a classic looking piece.

I have a CZ 550 American 6.5x55. It is my favorite rifle. I too have the CZ 550 American 6.5X55. It is my favorite hunting rifle. How hot are the load/s you are running? I run Hornady 140 grain SP with Varget max load via Hornadys manual. My manual is about 10-12 years old so I'm not sure what the newer manuals would show. I also have a load for the 140 grain SST.

Not at home to check but almost max charge of IMR 4831 with Berger 130 grain Hunting VLD. Used Berger load data.

FWIW, the bone stock untouched untuned right out of the box Tikka T3 Swede I had could/would put Sierra 120gr PH's all in one ragged hole with the Sierra book Load designated as "Hunting Load", look for that RL19 load for the exact charge weight. That gun would also get real close to doing the same thing in Hornady 129gr'ers & 130gr NAB's...and was GTG enough for my hunting needs that I never finished the final steps to make the 129/130's shoot like the Sierra 120gr bullets did after seeing what the Sierra bullet did on WTails. Got the most impressive DRT I ever had on that gun's 1st kill shot at 125/135 yards on a mature dry doe. Impact was in the top of the crease on the right side at a slight down angle, and she dropped in mid stride, folding back over on herself before she laid down and never flinched. Bullet entry was not hard to find, but did not exit, breaking up on the inside of the left shoulder joint, breaking the ball joint socket & splitting the ball of the off side shoulder like I had aimed for it with a pool cue & cue ball....and nuthin but soup in between from the entry point.
As far as that gun in 140's... I got them GTG to group Minute of Deer at 200 yards and called it day, with the excellent On Game performance of the lighter bullets. RL19 was my easiest powder to work with, using WLR's in Lapua brass on paper, and hunted with FL resized & one trim job for length mixed brand range pickups with mebbe .02/.03 group size falloff from the well prepped Lapua's. I shot the "Hunting" brass without annealing them & until the primers pockets were too loose to retain primers reliably & then donated them to the recycle bucket.
Wish I had KEPT THAT gun ...Oh well... Ron

Most, but not all manufacturers give the Swede a bit more throat so that the heavier, longer bullets that gave the Swede its great reputation with elk-sized animals can be employed.
The other 6.5's - not so much.
So, if you are not planning an elk or moose hunt with your 6.5, then you may find that the 260 or the creedmoor will do a better job with the lighter bullets.
One question about the new Howa mini in 6.5 Grendel that remains is how heavy a bullet can one load - and cycle through the magazine on that model. - If it cannot properly handle at least a 140 grain bullet, then my interest in that rifle will also be limited.

I can't honestly reccomend either over the other because I don't own a .260 and have very little experience behind one. I do have a CZ550FS in 6.5 Swede with the Mannlicher stock and a compact 1-4x33 on it. It's a great little gun and a great round. I load the 140g Hornady BTSP over 41g H 4831 (a tad lighter than Hornady's 2500fps recipe) and get good velocity and very good accuracy.

Jorge, pick your action and let it tell you the caliber Mauser 6.5X55 or M7 for the 260. As far as ballistics I would call them twins, no game animal would ever be able to tell which it was shot with.

Thanks fellas. I think im leaning too the 260. Lots of components and i have pages of load work ups for my current 260. If im lucky one of my loads can be used in both, which would be very helpful.

A great thing about deciding between 6.5x55, 260 and 6.5 Creedmoor is that you just can't go wrong.

For whatever reason never been a 6.5x47 fan. Good round, but never had any interest.

For whatever reason never been a 6.5x47 fan. Good round, but never had any interest. Only down side to it is less velocity than its big brothers make. However, the brass lasts longer than anything else I know of, and it shoots the same velocity, shot for shot. As far as your pick of the larger 6.5 mm rounds, all will do a good job for you. I had a 260 that shot great, it just took a bit of fine tuning to get the load to be very consistent. The 6.5 Creedmoor makes the same external ballistics as the 260 did, but is less pick about how it's loaded. I've got no first hand experience with a 6.5X55, but it's been getting the job done for a long time.
