Spent Friday and most of today at Knox City for the annual Watermelon Festival. We hauled a bunch of nephews around in a horse drawn buggy for the parade. WHile there, I took time to look around at the quail population. My brother has a 12 acre home place thats about a mile from a 100 acre place he owns. We saw no less that a dozen coveys on the road and jumped 6 coveys on his place. I know where I'm going this year. Actually, it looks like that's the only place I'll be going this year.

I went up to Knox City on a great day hunt several years ago. We paid a goose guide to hunt a really big pasture surrounded by wheat. It started out okay and got better after we found a roost area.

Yes. The pasture was west of Knox City around 15 miles.

It's impressive how the quail are doing in Knox county. I travel there for business every week. It seems like there is a covey by every location. There's an old cemetery toward Rule from the KM oilfield I make a pit stop at that always has a covey around it.I dove hunt several times a year with customers out there. I already have some invites this year to bring my dogs out for quail. I'm looking forward to it.

It's refreshing to see how people in Knox City feel about hunters. I've dove hunted a field in the middle of town. We can hear everything going on at the football field on Friday nights. At first I was concerned about peppering the surrounding houses. My customer who grew op there said don't worry about it, they don't care. Sure enough the homeowners came out after we get got through hunting and asked how we did. We gave them enough birds for a good meal and they were happy as they could be.

I've been hammering the predators up there for the past few years so maybe its helping.

I remember that they had a great convenience store buffet downtow. They had an excellent steakhouse across from Allsups for several years. I was told it was opened by one of the guys that worked for the Beehive in Albany. It was expensive but was closed with the bust. I miss it but there is still a good Mex place on the main drag. It used to be by the hospital but they moved downtown. It's the best place in town for lunch. We eat at Buds for breakfast. They have a good looking seniorita working there that always remembers what you want.

I can read yalls posts and see all these places in my mind. I grew up there and worked all over that country. My family still lives there. That being said, I have no desire to live there again.
