Set up a makeshift blind, use your duck call, make it just like you are hunting. Have someone throw the duvk from behind a tree, and shoot the bird, now work your dog. Then repeat.
If it bleeds I can KILL IT

John, I have done lots of water work with my dog. He has no trouble with live birds. Worst part is when they start diving on him. We try and prevent that situation. Train now with the dockin and set out your decoys. There are some great training videos out there. Check out uklabs.com, Wildrose kennels on Facebook, and YouTube training Ms. Mazie, and also 6 months to 6 ducks with Zeke and Greta. Great info!
Enjoy hunting with family and friends! Take your bow and a quiver full of arrows, and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me. Gen 27:3

No need to pay or find live mallards. Pigeons work just as well- most reputable trainers use them exclusively

Most trainers do use pigeons especially with young dogs. However using ducks is also really common. The exposure to ducks is beneficial for the dog.

I have always hunted w "alternative" breeds. Yea, talked to guy in Tx and said they do use mallards on labs for tune ups and started dogs from time to time
