Whatever the builder prefers.
Last gunsmith I used prefers obermyer. I know a few that are really fond of hawkhill barrels lately.

Is there a difference in how each manufactures? Just curious.

Is there a difference in how each manufactures? Just curious. Yes there is cut rifled and there is button pull or pushed. Also some have different grades of barrels where others only have low or match grade. Also polygonal rifling. Not as common but can be very good. David Tubb used to run Schneider poly rifled barrels.

Used an 18" polygonal Pac Nor on my first build. Was back when John Noveske was their in house smith. Was by far my most accurate and would shoot 1/4 to 1/2 moa. Since then, I have purchased 2 other Noveske polygonal tubes...one a 7.5" and then another in 10.5" in 6.8. I know they are expensive, but they shoot lights out. Also have polygonal on my HK.

Are Pac Nor barrels really that good, meaning they are comparable to the rest of the list? And I ask sincerely without any sarcasm or anything like that. The pricing seems so affordable at times I assumed it can't be "that great," especially their installed barrel prices. I know that's a stupid reason but in the world of guns that can often times be true.
I've been considering them for years to replace a really worn out barrel on my 788.

I've been considering them for years to replace a really worn out barrel on my 788. friend of mine used them was a shooter. I have been using Douglas, so far they all have been shooters, definitely others that are what the bench shooters prefer.
