Actually road runners eat a lot of stuff that preys on quail, mainly snakes, small rodents.
Their impact on the quail population is minimal. My guess is overall they are a plus rather than a minus as far as quail populations are concerned. I'd rather have a few piasanos around that a lot more snakes and rats.

Saved this guy from a road runner yesterday at big lake. I like quail and horned lizards more than I like RR's.

He was picking at the toad and the toad was standing real tall and rocking back and forth in a real menacing way. Never seen one act that way before, but I've never seen one attacked before either.

Just took the toad a few hundred yards down the road and turned him loose.

We have lots of road runners and lots of quail.

Ive been told I'm wrong many times, but the common factor I see most often when I see quail is no fire ants.
