Long story to this hog, quick version follows: My thermal scope is in the shop getting fixed, left me with my X-sight mounted on a savage 22-250. I have yet to kill anything with this rig. Sit in the blind in sweltering heat from 7-9:30 and see ton of deer but no hogs. I decide to get out after dark and walk over the ridge in the field to see if anything is there. Nope. I go back to car, pull it around and into feed pen to fill feeder. I keep the car running with high beams on the whole time. I finish, tinker with game cam, and pull out to close feed pen gate. Decide to take one last look, and sure enough I see two hogs out about 150 yards, I get my gear out of my car (another door open and close) and then take off after them. Get close enough for the IR to show me the hogs and BAM...I get back into my thermal handheld in enough time to see the hog wobbling away and then flip over and start the death roll. Ended up being a recently pregnant baby maker. Glad I brought the winch this time...I learned something last time I hunted by myself I just couldn't believe those two hogs were not scared away by my running truck and high beams as I pulled into and out of the feed pen and me opening and closing the door about three times. This one paid for such ambivalence

What bullet are you using? Winchester 55gr jacketed soft point. I hit a little further back than I wanted, but it was still lethal with just one shot and a couple seconds. Surprised it was though given how big she was. I must have devastated her lungs or something, but didn't do a post mortem like you do most of the time, just due to time constraints. I would have really liked to have seen what it did to her. But now that I think about it more, I am not so sure on the lung hit, there was no blood out of her mouth. Most lung shots produce frothy blood from the mouth....hmmm, maybe it was a cns hit??? Will just have to wonder Edit, after looking at the pics again I do some just teeny bit of blood from the mouth....had to be a lung shot.

Nice going. Glad they finally showed up and hung around long enough to get shot.

Great pig.
It's hard to figure what they will shy away on and what they will ignore.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Glad I brought the winch this time...I learned something last time I hunted by myself LOL. I learned this lesson the hard way on a couple of hunts. The winch is a must if you hunt by yourself, and it's still nice if you hunt with a friend.

I never seem to have the luck where they just ignore all the noises. Typically they spook just from me moving in the stand
