Any recommendation for buying flight condition birds for Do It Yourself hunt.
Doing a canned hunt on your own is difficult. It is hard to find flight conditioned birds to put out that will be wild enough without a launcher.
Your best bet is quail or pheasants. Chukar tame quickly, are difficult to keep flight conditioned. Huns are so hard to raise you won't find any.
You are really better off going to a hunting preserve if one is near you. If you do try it, put the birds out the same morning you hunt. Most of them will be gone in a day. Pen raised birds only fly half as fast as wild birds, even if they are conditioned. They have no survival skills and little if any predator fear. It would be great if you could plant pen raised birds because quail are easy to raise. However there is a reason no state runs put and take operations anymore--the birds are all eaten before the hunters can get to them. Birds are easy to raise but it is very difficult to get them wild enough to provide a fair chase. Most "flight conditioned" birds a simply birds still able and willing to fly and just wild enough to use for training out of a launcher. Wish I could be more encouraging but I can't.
