Just bought an ATI Omni-Hybrid 300 blk in an AR-15 platform. Sighted in at 50 yards open sights with some nice grouping in the death hole. Will sight in at 100 yards with scope and plan to deer hunt with it this deer season. The bullets are Hornady 110 grain V-Max. Any of you guys out there have any experience on ballistics i.e. bullet drop past 100 yards? Or any other experience deer hunting with 300 blackout? How about supressed with sub-Sonic at 100 yards?

At one hundred with super sonic ammo I would not hesitate shooting a deer. That said, I personally wouldn't use the Vmax (varmint bullet) bullet on a deer. I'd use 110 grain Barnes Tac Tx or 125 grain Hornady SST. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who have killed with sub sonic ammo, but again I personally wouldn't use for taking game.

I'm not bashing anyone who hunts deer or pigs with varmint bullets or sub sonic ammo.

Please don't hunt with subsonic ammo , even at 25 yards it isn't a pretty slight when the bullet doesn't do the job.

This isn't just a 300 BO opinion it is hunting with subs in general opinion.

Since you're just getting started with 300BO do some research on the Barnes Tac/TX black tips, they were optimized for 300BO

Hand loads I'll use 110gr Barnes out to 150yds Max
I tried a subsonic on a coon. Will never use one again.

Sounds like the trajectory of my old 35 Remington, though I had a 200 gr bullet.

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer or hog out to 200 yards with my 300 blk shooting the supersonic 110gr Barnes Bullets.

I killed a coon at 100 yards from underneath a feeder with a 208gr hornady subsonic A-Max. The round passed completely through at that distance.

With supers I would limit shoots to 200yards or so. V-max works quite well at BLK speeds and doesn't expand nearly as quickly as on bigger cals. If your gonna use subs I would use an expanding 220+ gr bullet. I have shot feral hogs with subs without issue, but I use only headshots, you are limited by your ability to connect. I haven't used subs past 50-60 yards on game.

I have 3- 300 blk out rifles. I also practice out to 500 and 600 yards with mine. When you practice out that far with them, the 200-300 yard shots become very easy. I have hunted with a blk out for the last 3-4 years. I shot a crow last morning of deer season at a lasered 245 yards with my 115 grain Berger ammo. If I can hit a crow that far out, I think it's fine on deer and pigs. Sure, it's not a long range caliber. But if you know your drop and how to hold/dial for elevation properly, it works just fine.

If you need good quality 300 blk out ammo, take a look at my options. I develop these loads to shoot as accurately as possible.

Here's a video I put together shooting at 400 and 500 yards for groups out of my AR.

How do your Berger loads perform on Deer/Hogs?

The Berger FB Target bullet is a target bullet with a thick jacket. Expansion will be minimal. But I've killed multiple deer, coyotes, several pigs, crows, raccoons, and all kinds of stuff with that bullet. All but one critter has been a bang-flop shot. I ordered 30,000 of them a few years ago, and have been shooting that bullet a lot. It shoots very well. And with the lack of expansion, you get full penetration and a good size exit wound. Also, my son and I plink with this bullet out to 600 yards. It does very well. I'll keep shooting it!

I also have them at a reduced price to move them. I have THOUSANDS of them! It's one of my favorite bullets for the blk out.
