The problem with manual launchers is that you have to get in front of the dog to release. This is difficult with a young excited dog. Remotes are more practical because you can release birds when the dog gets to close. You want the dog to learn to trust his instinct to point. You want the dog to learn that when he approaches too closely or rapidly after scenting the bird that the bird will flush with the opportunity to capture it. In the beginning you want to flush the bird BEFORE the dog points. You want the dog to learn to point, you don't want to force it to point. First couple of birds are released before the dog points and you allow the dog to chase. Then when the dog points you release and allow chase, as the point becomes more steady you begin to take away the chase. When chase is taken, dogs usually get a lot more staunch in their point. All this is more difficult when you have to get in front of the dog and release the bird before he gets to it. It is much easier and faster to train with a remote launcher. Scott manual launcher do what they are advertised to do but it much more difficult to set up a reliable learning scenario.

He was right on. Will you train alone or with a helper?
