Some of you may remember that I recently tried out a Mossberg Patriot, the new economy bolt-action rifle from Mossberg that breaks from its long-held tradition of producing good rifles housed in goofy-looking stocks.

The Patriot stock is actually very good, both in appearance and function. I spent a bit extra for the laminated stock with the action and barrel having the marinecoat finish, on the 30-06 that I ordered.

The rifle was like the other low-cost hunting rifles made by Ruger, Savage etc. in that it was accurate.

A problem cropped up, though. Upon the first firing, some of the marinecoat finish peeled or chipped off of the muzzle.

So, I called the service department at Mossberg. The lady sent me a pre-paid FedEx shipping label via eMail. I printed it out, boxed up the gun, and took it to the local FedEx shipping agent, a print shop in this small desert town. Off it went to the Mossberg facility in Eagle Pass, Texas.

A few days later, Mossberg called to let me know that they had the rifle. I asked about turn-around time. The lady said that they were not getting a lot of returns, so the rifle should be fixed up within a week or two.

Six days after that conversation, the rifle was delivered to my door. Considering shipping time, I'm guessing that it spent three, maybe four days at the factory before being sent back to me.

I got the same gun back, with the problem fixed. It looks great. I would have test fired it this morning, but the range is closed until this afternoon, while local law enforcement guys get in some practice and training there.

Anyway, I'm just saying that I am impressed with the service that I got from Mossberg. The rifle is impressive too. All of the low-cost hunting rifles shoot pretty good - but the Mossberg Patriot stands out because it is the only one that doesn't have that "goofy look".

Heh! smile

There's a turn-around for you.

Good deal. It's great to do business with a company with good customer service.

Thanks, nice to know because there is a lot of bashing going on lately...

I have one in 308, looks a bit like the Ruger Gunsite. Shots as good as I can.

I'm glad you received good service. I had a really bad experience with Mossberg CS back in 2011 involving an SA-20. Finally got my money back. I read posts all of the time where a person states they will never buy from a certain company again because of one bad experience.

Every company makes mistakes and I believe in giving everyone a mulligan once. I bought a 930 after my bad experience and am glad I did.

I had a 930 that had some problems with the gas rings. I listed it for sale and made the buyer aware of the problem. He bought the shotgun from me for asking price. He called me a week after the sale to let me know that Mossberg made everything right and sent new gas rings for ths shotgun at no cost.

I have since bought 2 930 SPX and a couple of SA-20's. Mossberg gets the nod on new shotgun purchases.
