Anyone know of some good public land to hunt in west Texas, around big bend or pecos?
Are there any places that's just open country where you can roam freely and hunt wherever? I'm looking for good Mule deer locations

Sorry compadre. No such land in west Texas. You can go for some of the draw hunts or get a tag in New Mexico.

If you archery hunt, you can chase whitetai deer and exotics at Lake Amistad. No mule deer though.

“He grouped his last five shots right in the center of the bull’s-eye. Then I showed him my technique of scattering shots randomly around the target because, as I explained, you never know which way the deer might jump just as you pull the trigger.”

Lake Meredith has public hunting for Mule Deer.

Lake Allen Henry as well.

There are also a few TPWD drawn hunts for Mule Deer you can put in for.
