Any public roads in the area that the blind can be seen from?

Sheriff's kids, interesting.

No. Neither can other people on my lease. Joe Blow off the street would have to be seriously trespassing, separated from the rest of his wagon train, and trying to find the Chisholm Trail navigating by the stars on a cloudy night to stumble across it.

Eastland/Stephens County line off 183. We have 160ish, they have 800ish. No. No.

we have a 3000 acre lease off hwy6 right past where the lake cisco dam washed out the road. approx. 4 miles down CR104. last year around dove season came out of the trailer and heard a bunch of shooting and rounds were clipping the mesquite trees in camp( not much taller than top of RV's) I was the new guy on the lease last year & there was one of the older members in camp at the time( Halfadozen on the forum) and went to his trailer as he answered the door we heard about 3 rounds zinging over his trailer. WE went down the lease road in a SXS with lights on and spotlights out yelling at whoever was shooting- never saw anyone or got them to answer. It was not a good feeling to be standing in the middle of a dark road asking people to quit shooting at us. Talked to our lease manager & if this happens again we are to call the Game warden.

had a bullet come thru the window of our cabin a few weeks ago. Very upsetting. All you can do is talk to the neighbors and notify the law. A lot of folks will claim they did not do it, but know deep down they may have done it by mistake. by talkking to them, perhaps they will be safer next time.

If you ever want to see how far a bullet will travel, watch an M-16A2 shot at night with tracer rounds. Will blow your mind.... Got to be careful.

#1 : "How far will that gun shoot with that scope?"

#2 : "I dunno, but I betcha I could hit that stand way over there"

#1 : "No way, you have trouble hitting pigs at your feeder".

#2 : "Screw you, put some money up".

#1 : "I'll give you $20 if you can hit that stand anyway on it - it's like 400-500 yards".

#2 : "You're on"

BANG!

#1 : "Holy cr-ap! You busted the window!"

#2 : "Damn, didn't mean to hit the window. Give me my $20 and don't tell anyone, ever."

Describe the ranges for the M16/A2 Rifle.

•Maximum Range - 3,600 meters = 2.23 miles
•Max Effective Range for a Point Target - 550 meters
•Max Effective Range for an Area Target - 800 meters

Is this the hypothetical blind on the high fence?

Nothing from the neighbor yet. It'll be a few weeks before I can go out there again, but if I haven't heard from them I'll have the sheriff or game warden out for a visit. Probably both.

My brother went out there last weekend. The note was still on the gate Friday night, but gone Sunday. No call from their lease foreman yet. I called the game warden, and we're going to meet up next weekend to show him the damage and verify trajectory. He told me there's nothing he can do legally, as far as any kind of charges or restitution, but he'd be glad to go and have a talk to them come deer season and gauge the situation. I'll probably make that visit myself opening weekend, and make sure of their intentions.

Finally got some closure on this. I never heard anything from the landowner or the lease foreman, so I had the game warden meet me out there yesterday. He looked over my area and agreed with my assessment about the trajectory. I had printed up a google earth satellite view that showed the bullet path coming from the neighbors camp. He went over there to have a look around, and met one of the new lessee's who happened to be there this weekend. While looking around, he found a small target range they had set up, with the shooting bench and the targets directly in line with my stand. At the base of the bench there was a small pile of .223 brass. What's worse, they way they had it set up the targets were elevated from the shooting position, and there was no suitable backdrop to keep the rounds from going over a hill. The hill that separates my property from their camp. There's no telling where those rounds wound up, short of the one that punched my stand. So much for knowing what's behind your target.

So, after a suitable Come to Jesus meeting with the warden, they'll be moving their range to an area that will provide a sufficient backdrop, pointing well away from my side of the property line.

Wow, at least they will be moving it now. I wish he could have hit them for shooting across property lines. Guess that would be hard to prove who actually did the shooting.

Glad to here this got resolved. Hope no bad feelings with them. How a lot of accidents happen, not waiting for a good shot and not knowing what's beyond target.

Glad you got it figured out. You waited an appropriate amount of time, then talked to the GW. Well done. If they have hard feelings after all that time, and, after a situation that coulda got somebody killed, that's on them.

Yes, glad that got figured out. Too bad nobody from next door is paying for your repairs, but at least it should not happen again.

Your neighbors are idiots.

My thoughts exactly. Contact the neighbors and if they are receptive, go from there. If they are a holes about it, contact the local sheriff to at the very least document the incident in the event that there are further problems.

if it was me I'd still move the blind. just because it looks like it might have an accident because they stupidly had their shooting range pointed your direction doesn't mean somebody didn't throw a shot at your blind on purpose.

It could have been an accident coming from their campsite.

I have observed first hand my neighbors shots traveling 150 yards through thick woods and cross my cabin compound.

I have also observed first hand shots traveling 350 yards through thick woods striking a tin building behind us 2-3 times. It was guys shooting at turtles in a pond with hand guns. That one has me really puzzled me.

Most people's neighbors are idiots.

Accidental or on purpose doesn't really matter. This is why you don't put stands near a fence line. It's safety for your own self. You can't rely on other people to be safe.
