How much does she/has she shot?
Taurus model 85 is great for novices who don't plan on shooting a lot.
Glock 19's are fool proof

Another vote for a small frame revolver. My wife keeps a S&W 637 with her by the bed when I'm working nights

Women are not too stupid to run an auto. Just takes a little practice.

Take her down there and buy the one she wants. If it's a little more $$, then so be it.

Not sure how anyone here can make a worthwhile recommendation based on the limited info you have provided. All we know is you have a budget of about $350, if you shop at Bass Pro...
What we don't know...
Level of experience? Is your wife a seasoned shooter, a total newbie, or somewhere in between?
How often do you intend to shoot this firearm?
What is the purpose of this firearm? Concealed carry, range use, home defense?
If concealed carry, will she carry it on her person, or in a purse?
Does your wife have any issues such as arthritis that could make working a slide difficult?
I'm sure there are other questions, but these are the first ones I have thought of.

The main thing is let her pick HER gun. I damn sure wouldn't want my wife to pic my carry gun.

She should go to a range shot several different pistols. That said, my wife settled on a Ruger LC380 after trying several pistols.

It will be kept in her vehicle untill we get our chl. Then in her purse. She is not afraid to shoot and knows the basic fireare safety and mechanics of how they work. She is scared of my 25-06, but has shot my full frame 9 and handled ot fine. She was a bit surprised when we switched from 38s to 357s in a ruger blackhawk. She didnt care to shoot the 357 much. I was thinking rossi 38 for the ease of use. One other thing to consider is safetys on the gun and that makes me lean away from a revolver. I have a forgetful wife and a toddler who loves mommys purse. She had a revolver when we met but had to return it to its owner (her ex) and it saved her once. A guy opened her sliding door and was coming into her bedroom. She pulled the gun and sent him running.
I will get off in a little bit

A light weight revolver can have pretty stout recoil.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

A guy opened her sliding door and was coming into her bedroom. She pulled the gun and sent him running. Ok... now we have a little to work on. 1. $350 budget. (at Bass Pro) 2. Full size or mid size could work, since it will be carried in a vehicle or in a purse. 3. Limited experience shooting, but can handle 9mm or .38 in a larger firearm. Does not care for recoil. Toddler playing in mommy's purse is going to be an issue no matter what firearm you choose. Your budget is going to limit your choices to S&W Sigma line, something from Taurus, or one of the small pocket type pistols that are easy to carry, but not real fun for a beginner to shoot. Out of these choices, I would look at renting a Ruger LCP, Beretta Pico, S&W Bodyguard, and a S&W Sigma and let her try those out. The first three are pocket pistols, .380 and 9mm. The Sigma is full size and is 9mm or .40. Adding another $100 to your budget opens you up to a bit more.

Revolver, especially if it's getting tossed in a purse.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

My wife picked out the Walther PK380 when we were shopping for her and she loves it.

I'd let her choose one also......out of several nice auto's. No reason to go revolver. Whatever they can do an auto can do and then some. Thats exactly what my wife told me when we got her her first, a revolver. And then she got a glock. Her first thought was "why did we waste our money on that revolver" ?
Being honest here but the only reason to carry a revolver is cause you don't have a auto yet.
