There is an article in the season and dates hunting booklet that you can pick up at Walmart or Academy about dove hunting. It recommends in that very booklet to shred lanes and disk plots for dove hunting. Like I said before, if this wasn't the case then all kinds of places would be out of business. People do this all the time. Waterfowl is different. A couple of the game wardens hunt at our club every year, we always do an annual dove trip down to el campo and hunt sunflowers, corn, or milo. Nobody harvests sunflowers here, those fields are always shredded and disked. I completely understand the confusion. They make waterfowl different from dove regulations

You guys are all correct. Our GW called me back this morning and said that it was OK to shred for doves. I have misread this all of my life I guesss. He explained that ducks as you guys say fall into another category. I have not been shredding milo for years thinking it was illegal to shred. It didnt hurt the hunting but made for extra work later in the season. Carry on nothing else to see here. I have no problem eating crow. The good thing was since he told me wrong yesterday he bought lunch today!

This thread brings up another interesting question. The dove management snippet Ramball36 posted above says "avoid hunting in areas where these feeders are located". How close is too close if you have a deer feeder in the field?

How close is too close if you have a deer feeder in the field? interestingly enough, we were hunting over a freshly cut milo field north of San Angelo, about a dozen of us in our group. Game warden showed up and was pleasant enough checking license & bags, then he said you boys might want to stay away from that corner of the field and pointed, there was a deer feeder just over the fence line in the adjoining pasture by the Concho river. I would guess you better be far enough away that you couldn't shoot doves going in to that feeder but I would likely shy even farther away.
