So guys,
The lease I'm on doesn't have a cabin and I don't own a RV and have no plans to buy one. So it's between buying a tent or staying in my truck. The bedliner in my truck is carpet which includes padding under it. It's very nice but I'm not really sure if this would be any better than a tent.
If you were in my situation what would you do? Any other options that doesn't include a large purchase or that would require storage fees if the lease doesn't work out?
Thanks,
Mel

Find a 6-8" thick piece of foam that you can roll up. You'll want it as wide as the wheel-wells are. Cover that with a fitted sheet and sleep away. To protect from the weather you can rig up a tarp - plastic or otherwise (I prefer the plastic). Cover the windshield back over the tailgate and hold it down with rocks behind the truck. The fanciest I got was I built a PVC 'frame' that held up the tarp in the back and either staked it down or held the edges down with rocks.

I have one of those truck bed tents that I use on the beach a few times a year. With an 8-foot bed it'll sleep me and a couple chicks comfortably (LOL!!!) It works OK but if going more than 15mph have to lay it down.

I have heard great things about those truck tents. I have slept on the foam mentioned above in the bed and it is fine sleeping....

I prefer a tent and a cot to sleeping in the truck. You can at least get out of the rain and cook in a tent if you have to. I have spent a few weekends sleeping on the ground under a tarp but wouldn't recommend it.

2-man tent and a cot
option 2: rent a 6x12 enclosed trailer from UHaul and use it for the weekend
option 3: buy a used 6x12 enclosed trailer, probably $2500 ish sleep in it, store stuff in it, leave it at the lease , locked ...

I might go the PVC route and that way you could leave the pipes and tarp at the lease and not have to haul them back and forth. here's a video that will show you how to build one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jni3E67sDsI

I bought a old school canvas truck bed tent from Cabelas when it was on the cheap. Some of the video's show guys using in cold states hunting in the winter and being too warm. I have yet to use it so no 1st hand review. Name brand was Kodiak I think...

Toper or pickup tent on a puckup bead trailetlr? Leave it at the lease. Would not tie up your pickup. Or tent.
Thank You Robert

Guys,
Thanks for all the responses. I have a Tonneau cover on my truck. I should have added that.

I use a temporary garage shelter from harbor fright for a cabin during deer season. Works great, dry and plenty of room for to cots and a cooking.

Have you looked at the Jumping Jack trailers pretty neat concept. I looked into them. They are kind of neat, but they are not for the budget minded. Way too expensive for what you get IMO. Heck, you can buy a nice popup camper (certainly a used one) for what those things cost - and have a whole lot more for your money.

Hit residential construction sites. The amount of lumber that get's thrown out is dis-heartening. Love repurposed materials and your costs to build a small structure would be minimal. If that's not an option, I'd check Craigslist for a storage shed.
Our 8x10 Morgan building came with 2 bunks built in for sleeping space, while still allowing room for a chair or 2, ice chest, gear, etc. Honestly. The smaller the space the more creative you become.
Bought it used for $300.00

used pop-up or tent. trying to sleep in your truck means unloading everything each night to find enough room to sleep. no room to change clothing standing up. early season hunts sharing your bedroom with mosquitoes and such, or getting soaked with sweat from poor ventilation. it's better to leave all the junk at home in the shed and carry your bow/gun and ammo/arrows, the food you intend to eat, water, the clothing for the trip, and the basic stuff that always goes. too much unneeded crap is a pain to mess with.

Isn't this what hotels are for. Opening weekend can be a burner. Being able to take a shower and sleep comfortably is and important part of the experience. I always stay at the Budget Inn in Coleman until I take my rv out and set it up.
Now I have slept in a goat shed one year, then a hay barn another and finally an abandoned farm house. Electricity is a key factor, if you don't have any in your camp your option are limited. It may have been a goat shed but it had water and Eletricity.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

If you're n a tight budget I'd buy a tent, good cot and sleeping bag. I'd also purchase a Mr. Buddy heater!

I had a camper trailer I bought for $150 my first 2 years on our lease. When I decided I was staying there I got an 8X18 ft cargo box from my dad. We insulated it and put ply wood over that. I have ac and heat and I sleep on a king size bed. ive got about $800 in it. If I ever decide to get off ill push it up on my trailer with my tractor and leave. The guys on the lease liked it so much 3 have done the same.

How far are you from town? I stay in a motel in town about 15-20 minutes from the lease. Kind of sucks having to get up a little earlier in the morning and drive in but as mentioned earlier, a hot shower and cold a/c make up for it. Also, I can grab coffee and burritos at the Allsup's for breakfast!

Used to sleep in a cot under a grain truck tarp tied between trees. Then I got a fifth wheel. Now I'm getting a carport for $600 and some siding off on old barn to build the guest house. lol...
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I have good camping gear so I would pitch a tent. I have, at times, slept in the truck bed with and without a shell on it, as well as slept inside the truck. Doesn't matter to me. I'm going to sleep, fast, wherever I am. Another option I've used was a nearby hotel.
I'd like to try one of the bed tents though.
