I might have this in the wrong place but here goes. I've been trying to figure out what to do with this rattlesnake skin that's barely too small for a hat band so decided it would look pretty awesome to use it on the grips for my six shooter. I figured I would glue them on the grips and then cover the whole thing in a clear epoxy resin. The skin has already been tanned and preserved. My first problem though is how to apply the resin. You can't exactly paint it on and it has to go on thick. I thought about a mold but usually you have to remove the original object from the mold before pouring the resin. I really want this work because it would look really cool on this shooter. Does anyone have any ideas, advice, experience on anything like this? Anything would be much appreciated.

I when I first started out I used to make a lot of rattlesnake skin grips and just used clear Polyurethane spray to coat/protect the skin. over time it can and usually does start to yellow though. oil based more so than water based.

if you're wanting a much thicker finish then you might look into the "hot stuff" brand of CA glue. https://www.amazon.com/Stuff-Thin-Instan...eywords=Ca+glue I've never tried it on skin before so I'm not sure how it would work. I'd definitely test on a scrap piece before trying the grips.

Yeah after looking around a little I was starting to lean towards a spray polyurethane. Thanks for confirming that
