My wife, who is a good shot, would like a big game hunt and I would like to give her one. Now being 70 has a few limitations with it. She can't hike 15 miles a day over the Rockies, etc. I'm open to any suggestions that you may have and I have a $10,000 budget, total cost. Oh, and I would like to be able to be with her on the hunt and that cost would need to be in the $10,000. I would not need to shoot, just be there beside her. Thank you.

Any big axis is much less than $10k and you can hunt them year round. Blind, safari style, or stalking but I doubt you'll hit the mile marker. It tastes amazing and is a beautiful mount.

Scimitar horned oryx is another good option.

Hi Mr T,

If you don't mind flying to South Africa, we would be happy to accommodate you and your wife. We have a concession and a few areas that I believe your wife would enjoy hunting without it being too difficult. And it would be within your budget.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to find out more details.

All the best on your search and I hope you find something suitable.

Might look into Alberta for Mule Deer hunt east or south of Calgary in the open prairies or farm/ranch land. You might both be able to swing a hunt with your budget. She can for sure. A lot of outfitters hunt out a truck and cover lots of miles in a day. She will have to be able to get out of the truck and rest on it for a shot or learn to shoot off of sticks/rest quickly. With the right outfitter a 180+ buck is very possible in the right units. Used to be all non-resident hunters had to hunt with a guide.

Is it safe to think that she has never hunted anything before and this will be her first time? Does she like to rough it or would the quality of the accommodations and food make a big difference in how much she enjoys herself? Is she wanting something unique for the wall, or does it matter to her what she gets?

With a nice budget like you have, there are so many options, but in my opinion, take her to one of the nicer, upper scale Texas ranches for whitetail. You can easily get a 160 class buck for that amount and have plenty left over.

To get a good reply to your question, you need to decide what animal you want to go for, then post the question in the appropriate section. If you decide on hunting whitetail, the native deer of Texas, then post in the Deer Hunting section asking for a place that has what you want. I take my wife hunting and she could care less about accommodations, she's good with anything from a nice lodge to staying at the local hotel, but I have friends who's wives will only be happy if they have a really nice place to stay.

My wife has hunted with me for 40 years and has stayed everywhere from a Hilton to a travel trailer to a tent and we even slept in the car a few times. She is an experienced hunter, but I am looking for something that will be a lasting memory for the rest of her life...and mine too. That is why I am keeping an open mind and asking for any suggestions or thoughts on this. Here is a photo of the buck she killed last year on a food plot that she mowed, plowed, and planted herself. Good thing I love her because I was a little jealous.

For 10 grand you and your wife could kill a trophy addax, trophy oryx, aoudad, management white tail and as many pigs as you'd like to load up. All inclusive.

Another option would be a nilgai hunt in S Texas. There are numerous outfitters that run good organizations. Wildlife Systems Inc is one that I hunted with. It was a first class operation with good people and accommodations. Its a challenging hunt but not too physically demanding.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that you could trade either of those supers for a pere David bull or a wildebeest bull.

Also, I have friends with lists that are different than mine in this area. We can mix and match. Mouflon, giant axis, gemsbok, kudu etc.

Regardless I think your wife would have a ball. My wife could guide her.

How about asking her what she wants to do?

Tell me about it!!!! Actually I did and her first choice is an elk hunt. But finding one where she is physically able to hunt may be a challenge. Then the budget of $10,000 with me tagging along. Again, I don't have to shoot, just be there to enjoy the memory.

Mr. T ... I will try to get you a contact point some friends went on an elk hunt in NM back in '14. If memory serves me, was about ~$3000/hunter plus tag, private land slightly east of Santa Fe. 2 fathers took their adult sons on the hunt, the sons were the hunters and the fathers were the spotters. Most of the hunting was accessible via 4x4 on ranch/logging roads. They saw some decent bulls but never could get within comfortable shooting distance. The price might be slightly higher as I believe the son of the land owner was friends with one of the hunting sons from college days. let me see what I can find out.

check on West Texas free range elk hunts. They can be had well within your budget and will be doable for her. If you're interested, let me know. My SIL lives out there and will know who sells hunts.

Can she ride a horse? If she can, will give you many more opportunities. My bride is just 63 and has fallen in love with lion hunting. I try to stay out of the real nasty terrain and higher elevations so that she can make the tree.
Adios,
Gary
