Has anyone done this? My concern is moisture and durability. Its a toss up between this and old carpet.

Styrofoam egg cartons are resistant to moisture but can be a fire hazard.
The paper pulp cartons get eaten by termites.
One of the best ideas I have seem was to use carpet and hang each piece by a couple of nails. This way it can be easily removed in the off season and not get nasty.

I had carpet on the walls and the mice loved getting between the carpet and wall. So carpet came down.

We glued the carpet (the cheapo thin gray stuff from Home Depot) to the walls in all 12 of our blinds, it keeps the minor bumping around pretty dang quiet. I have never used the egg crate type of sound deadening, I bet mice would love that stuff. I am sure it would work good but sounds like a bit of overkill.
