Don't remember the name. Heck, hemp, hump, four letter name. Worth checking out. Good old school burger. Always crowded but they move the line right along. Burgers, ham sammich, grilled cheese, chips, and drinks. That's all.
Herds BurgersThat's the name. Try it.

Herds. I have been told that the store as you come in town on the south side has good burgers also.

We split a burger. I couldn't shake the fact that it tasted like a freshly made WB. And they have been there since 1916. Hmmm. I'm thinking father of our Whataburger.

Love Herd's. One of my favorite burger joints in Texas. Eat there whenever I am passing through Jacksboro.

Get the double. Great burgers but single is on the small side. With Jals, great stuff.

Herds is an exception to the rule that when a business expands out of core product, things are just never the same. I was worried years ago when they added ham sandwiches to the menu.

Herds is ok. They've gotten a lot shorter on the beef in the last few years. You have to order a double to get a regular sized burger. The seating also leaves something to be desired. They also don't take credit cards. That keeps me from taking my customers up there.

The seating also leaves something to be desired..... Used to only have coke crates. No chairs. Has it changed?

If you are over 50, you remember the school chairs with the little desk? Bingo.. I do like the burgers though. I stop there whenever they are open and I'm out that way hunting. The seating also leaves something to be desired..... Used to only have coke crates. No chairs. Has it changed?

Herd's is awesome. I wish they were open when I come home on Sundays.
The gas station (Phillips 66) does have a good burger. I've only been there once but it was good.
My wife and I usually stop at Dairyland on our way home since they the only place open that sells food on Sundays. We think the burgers are awesome. The fries suck though.

I have Had a "Herdburger" at least once a week since I was old enough to eat. It used to be a walk up stand, then moved to a small place with enough seating for about four people, then to where it is now. When Claude retired and handed the spatula, or cement trowel actually, to his son, the meat portion got a little smaller, but they are still good. The Kwik Stop on the South end of town has good burgers too, and a smoked bologna sandwich that is excellent. The owner is a good guy and supports hunters as well. As for the Dairyland lovers, well, most of us locals won't eat there.

... As for the Dairyland lovers, well, most of us locals won't eat there... Jacksboro FD was called out to Dairyland one night. Passing motorist reported smoke in the building. Turned out to be a false alarm. Harold had set off bug bombs when he closed that night. Die darn you roaches die!!!!!

When the son took over, I had to get a double meat single cheese to get filled. Son is working them a lot more hours I think it used to be open until 3, last time I looked at the sign it said 10 pm On Dairyland which I have not eaten at in a long time, the only thing I liked was the Chicken Finger I stole of my sons plate The BBQ sandwich I had was worthless

I'll have to try that Kwik Stop. I had seen the best burger sign but figured it was just malarkey. I do stop at Herds whenever I can though. I started hunting around there 10 years ago. Like you said, I tried Daryland a couple of times that first year..have never been back since. I have Had a "Herdburger" at least once a week since I was old enough to eat. I think the Texas Country Reporter will be there on next show this week end. Good burgers but seemed they should control the flies a little better back in the day.
