Just bought the new Honda Rancher and need to put a winch on it. I'm a little bit (big bit) out of touch with what's available these days.

What maker: do I go with Warn again, or are there good alternatives that are as good and less expensive?

Power: have a 3000 on the Yamaha, so I guess a 3000 is reasonable for the new ATV?

Mounts: what else do I need for the winch installation? Do I need parts that don't come with the winch, such as a mount?

Please offer whatever info you have. Thanks.

Yes you will need a mount, , I like viper, kfi. super winch is good one for the $$ to. Always thought warns were to high. motoalliance.com is viper and their site will tell ya what mount to get... Seen pretty good deals on Amazon on winches also.

I bought a Warn 2k for my feeder. It went out quickly. Bad relay. Easy fix once you find part but less than a year? On a relay?

I hear Superwinch is good. Northern Tool has both.

Went to the Superwinch website and found the 3000# LT series winch and the mounting bracket, for a total of about $210. Not bad. Hope it works Ok.

3000 on a ATV is way overkill, 1500 would've been plenty. I bought a $99 Smittybilt 3000 for my SxS and its way more than enough. It's pulled it through sand uphill without any problems.

Get the big winch and an accessory bag with two snatch blocks. You won't always be pulling your ATV/UTV.

I think I'll get the 3000. Over the years I've had that Yamaha Big Bear I have never gotten stuck, even in serious Louisiana mud. I use the winch to drag other things, some of which are heavy. But, a 2000 might work as well.
