I bought an AR in the Spring. It is an 18 in SS with a 1:7 twist.
First few trips to the range were awful.
shooting 62 and lighter. really wide pattern.

I used the 62 Hog Hammers and got the pattern down to 2 inches at 60 yards. still not good.

I purchased some Barnes Vor-tx 70gr and they shot much better. Would trust them for ranges out to 150.
I also had purchased Black Hills Ammunition 223 Remington 77 Grain Sierra MatchKing Hollow Point, which shot even better.

My question: Are these Black Hills hollow points good choice for hog bullets.

thanks.

Sounds like your rifle likes the heavier bullets. Have heard mixed results with the MatchKing bullets on game. A few members have reported good results on hogs with 75gr A-Max.

would recommend VOT-TX also if you trust them out to 150 yards that should be IMHO max range anyway I would shoot a hog with a 223.

the barnes are very soild bullets would go with them for hog hunting over hollow points. am loading up so barnes myself going to try 62 grain first in my AR. MINE HAS 1/7 TWIST. going to use mine as a carry rifle in truck on lease and by my side on ATV, but I want a bullet that will take out pigs and deer inside 150 yards and like you most of my shots are closer

Barnes 70 grain TSX if you're rolling your own. Federal fusion 62 grain or Hornady 60 grain American Whitetail if you're buying factory ammo.

I use a Daniel defense Mk12 18 inch barrel 1/7 twist for hogs and have yet to have one get away from me (shot placement is key) I use Asym ammo 70 grain tsx for hogs Coyotes javelinas. I dropped a few big boars with that round. Check them out.

I have a 1/7 inch twist barrel that shoots any of the tougher bullets well, bullets like the 50gr. Hornady SX not so good. 55gr. fmj shoot just fine and all the 60 plus weight bullets shoot very well.

Barnes bullets believer (I personally wouldn't use this caliber beyond 75 yards).
