Just picked up a new Bear Empire. Draw weight is 60 lbs and length is 29in. Factory spec says ibo speed is 330...so how is that determined? What length and weight arrow should I buy to get to that speed? Kinda new to me any help would be great.

Factory specs are all advertising. They use lightest arrows for d/w and naked strings...IBO is not real world specs.Should get some good advice on arrows on here, good pro shop relationship is good to have in future!

IBO is a pie in the sky velocity figure. It is with a bare string, maxed out poindage and with arrows that weigh 5grains per pound of draw weight.

What are yalls recommendations for my draw and length? What length arrow should I be using? Weight? When someone is saying they are shooting a 400 grain arrow for deer hunting, is that total weight including broadhead or just arrow?

I'm in Ben Wheeler and have a small archery shop that I'm getting set up. If you'd like some help, give me a shout. I can help you get the bow set for you. I know how to tune a bow to maximize performance and squeeze the most speed out of them. My bow is shooting above IBO calculated speeds for my draw length and arrow weight. I also have a new Axis shooting above IBO calculated speeds. I can get you fixed up with the correct arrows and any accessories, plus my prices are cheaper than any local shop. Wes 940-733-0764
IBO speeds are figured at 30"draw length/ 70lbs, no weight on string and a 350gr arrow.

Arrow length will be determined by your draw length, that should be set to fit you with the bow at the back wall when you are at your anchor point. Arrows selected by your poundage and draw length. Peep sight position on the string set and tied in for your anchor point. I would suggest taking it to a proshop and get it sized to fit you then select arrows and cut to fit you and your bow spined accordingly to the poundage and length.
Compound bows are setup to fit the shooter, not the shooter having to contort to fit the bow. Poundage should be set to a comfortable level for you to draw without having to go through gyrations to draw it back.
