We've had two feeders stolen in the last two months. They were full of corn with sealed/screwed on lids, so had to have been put into a truck or atv to get off the property. Just the legs left on the ground. Any ideas on ways to make feeders more secure, or at least harder to make off with?
Damndest thing is that there is a camera pointing right at it. Feeder is there one day, then gone the next. No photo evidence whatsoever of someone or something knocking it over, rolling it away, etc. Maybe someone walking up behind the camera and turning it off, taking the feeder, then turning the camera back on? Don't know why they'd leave the camera if they are stealing the feeder. Burns me to no end thinking about it.

Maybe a neighbor who doesn't want you hunting? Or maybe a practical joker??
Sounds weird man. I don't know of anyway other than setting up another and putting up a second camera in a not so obvious location....

Do you lease or own the land? Report it to the law (deputy/Game Warden)? I'd definitely put a remote camera up. 'Doesn't make sense not to take the legs or the camera if they're trying to fence the stuff. Try looking on Kerrville Craigslist for them.

Own the land, and yep, I reported to the Edwards County game warden. Will be putting up more cameras. Good call on checking craigslist -- feeder had some specific modifications that could make it easy to identify.

Yeah, I've heard there is another land owner nearby that doesn't like people hunting. Maybe trying to send a message. Got some balls to just come on the property in view of the cabin. But they live out there full-time and we're just on the weekends, so they probably know when we are not there so low risk to them.

Would definitely put up a hidden camera, not in plain view of the feeder. Replace the feeder and. See if you can catch the neighbor. I bet it is then. They know you a rent out there and they probably know to turn off the camera and do their dirty work.

Yeah, I've heard there is another land owner nearby that doesn't like people hunting. Maybe trying to send a message. They must not be from Texas. I'm sure there are Texans who don't agree with hunting, but dam few that are stupid enough to trespass. Most folks have sense enough to know they might be getting a "message" in their own azz.

Well, I heard from a couple of other landowners nearby and sounds like it may be a disgruntled neighbor, which is a different problem altogether. I'm on the property owners association board, and he's mad about POA fees that were raised this year. So some hidden cameras will go up and we'll see what we catch.

Make a feeder without removable legs. Weld them on. Then cement the legs into the ground.

concrete makes it hard to move once the hogs wallow out a hole under the feeder ... but prevents thieves, or at least makes them work a bit harder to remove anyway. Put up a cheap feeder with a couple hidden cameras.

PMK I like that idea of putting up a fake feeder. I would also put up 2 or three cameras. That just goes against all codes stealing another mans feeder. Keep us updated please I would like to know if you catch him. I wish you were closer I wouldn't mind setting up and catching them red handed.
I once drank muddy water out of a hoof print and was dang glad to get it.

That sucks...hope you catch them. Not sure how hard the ground is to dig where you are at, but you can dig a 8"x12" hole and fill it with concrete. Use anchors to set the post in the concrete. You only need to do one leg and if there is an issue with wallowing under the feeder, it is easier to remove the anchor or just spin the feeder. More cameras is better and I would hide one at the access points to your property or on the egress/ingress roads. Good luck

Watch a tv show last night about hunters having their tree stands stolen, the game wardens bought several and put them up. They put a tracking chip in them, would activate when moved and show on their phone. Caught the thief. It was here in Texas.

That show is a new Game warden show on Animal Planet called "Lonely Stars Law". I enjoy watching it. I have seen my local game warden on it a few times. I sure the game wardens could do something like that for a feeder too.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

you can always put out a decoy camera with a legit one pointed at it to see if they tamper with the decoy.
