For what? Carry, target shooting?

My only advice....dont buy her anything that is less quality than what you would carry or shoot yourself. Cant tell you how many times I see guys that will shoot nice guns then cheap out on their wifes gun.

Someone has Ruger SP 101 on sale for $440, if you run out of ammo you can beat people with those things.

My wife recently fell in love with the k frame S&W...here's why:

She's small and the 38 spl is not very snappy
Fits her hands well
It's a wheel gun so it's simple (she's not a fan of chambering a semi)
Goes great in a purse

Show her a 3 or 4" Smith & Wesson. If a great trigger and smooth action is what you want, their performance center pistols would be the way to go!

Take her to a range that has a wide variety of rentals. Let her shoot until she finds what she wants. Rent before you buy.

This, and buy what she says she likes to shoot. Keep your opinions to yourself. She'll sort it out and make the decision that works for her.

My wife tried ten different pistols and settled on a Glock 19, with the Ruger in a close second place. She could not load the mags on the Ruger very easily, so the Glock was the final answer.

Absolutely. Don't pick hers unless you're gonna let her pick yours.

Buy her a Smith or Ruger full size revolver. Unless she shoots a lot, revolvers are much easier to learn on. Shoot 38 Special Loads, they have low recoil and low muzzle flash. If she wants to carry a big revolver fits just fine in a purse.

And don't assume all she can handle is a .380 or .38 special. My wife is not a big woman, 5'4" and she is very comfortable shooting my .40s, my 308, a couple 30-06 and 12ga shotguns. My point is, don't sell your wives short on what they can handle.

Not sure if this particular firearm is of interest to you but...

I took my wife out a couple of years ago with all of my pistols available to her. She quickly latched on to my EDC pocket carry Sig P238, and I haven't had it back since. I'm not going to post a list of what she had to choose from, but it was a variety of 9mm, .45, 380, and 38/357 from most of the manufacturers we know and trust.

When I told her it was now hers, she proclaimed "but that is your gun". I responded, "not anymore".

The point is that she had several options to consider from auto-loaders to revolvers in a variety of cartridges. I had also provided several different loads of each ammo from quite tame to +P+ for the appropriate hand guns.

Her second favorite was an LCR .38, which I also gave her full reign over; but she doesn't like the trigger as much.

I believe her third favorite might have been an officer 1911, but my example was quite heavy. She didn't mind the recoil, but just the handling weight.

To my surprise, she hated my favorite CZ 75 and clones that I carry everyday. The slide didn't giver her enough grip to feel comfortable with racking the action.

The point being, you have to let her choose and have many options to choose from.

Which ever gun she is comfortable with it may a good idea to "train" her to think of the advice that I have told many females regarding a home invasion or attack: Center mass and four, center mass and four ect. If the invader is vertical he is a threat! texas
