Guys,

I am heading out today to check out a deer lease. I believe based on talking with the Lease Manager that this place will be much better than the one I was on last year. For those who know the area how is the hunting out that way? The lease is about 15-20 miles north west of San Angelo.

Thanks,

Mel

Will depend on the ranch in that area. Some of the larger places are managed very well and some are way overhunted. How many acres per gun on place you are looking at?

7 guns on 1200 acres

Land being over hunted is always a concern but I'm not really sure how you can tell when looking at a place for the first time. I saw it last night for the first time but just from the road and then I looked at a large map of the area. It looks good but.....

I haven't hunted that country in 20 years. When I lived down that way it was great deer hunting North of San Angelo. Just drive through there at night.
I do feel that 7 hunters on 1200 acres would be too crowded for me in that country.

Yeah 7 on 1200 will definitely be crowded. Your probably looking at a harvest recommendation of a buck per 400-500 acre range.

I hunted a lease in Mason 5 yrs ago that had 8 hunters on less than 700 acres....

The average buck taken was 120-125 but there were bigger bucks on it. My last year I got a 142 ten point.

I did get on the lease and got two feeders set up this morning.

Should be plenty of corn on the ground if there are 14 feeders going. Good luck.

Way too over crowded for that area if everyone expects to shoot a buck. Managed well, the area produces excellent bucks.
