Part of a windmill. windmills can use wooden sucker rods and that is the metal connection for joining another link.

I think it is part of a water well windmill pump. Instead of a metal sucker rod it used a wooden one on top above ground. A metal sucker rod screwed on to the threads that went inside of the pipe. My guess it is homemade by a blacksmith.

Part of a windmill. windmills can use wooden sucker rods and that is the metal connection for joining another link. That kinda makes sense. I forgot to mention that was rotted out wood inside it. I think it is part of a water well windmill pump. Instead of a metal sucker rod it used a wooden one on top above ground. A metal sucker rod screwed on to the threads that went inside of the pipe. My guess it is homemade by a blacksmith. That is pretty cool. Found it on top of a hill next to the pens for running cows so that would also make sense as to where the location of it was. Windmill is long gone but interesting none the less.

Top or bottom of a sucker rod from an old well. The center part was wood.

I have one someplace and it was found at an old windmill with a wooden rod in it.

Yes, I have attached many of those to sucker rods. You will have a male end and a female, you found the girl. Since we didn't have electricity at the windmills and long before battery powered drills, you would slide that piece over the end of the rod and drill holes by hand. Instead of using bolts to hold onto rod, you use brass rivets so that it creates a smooth surface that will travel up and down in the pipe without hanging. Another reason for using brass was that it is softer and will not wear on the inside of the pipe, nor will it rust. More than you wanted to know. Adios, Gary

Had to "fish" one out of an old well before, the wood actually in the water was in great shape for it's age, but was a huge PITA to get a ring around to pull it, being a shallow 100isg foot well helped as well.
