Derecho damaged up to 10 million acres of Iowa farmland; corn and soybean crop most impacted
43 percent of Iowa’s corn and soybean crop has been damaged or destroyed

The powerful storm system that roared across the Midwest earlier this week killed at least two people and also caused widespread damage to millions of acres of crops in Iowa, according to officials.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) said Tuesday morning that the "intense derecho" traveled from southeast South Dakota all the way to Ohio, a path of 770 miles in 14 hours.

When the system reached Des Moines, forecasters said wind gusts were clocked at more than 100 mph. That caused devastation across farm communities.

A derecho is a widespread, long-lived wind storm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms.

POWER OUTAGES TOP 1 MILLION IN MIDWEST AFTER DERECHO, SOME MAY BE OUT FOR 'DAYS'

“This morning I had a farmer reach out to me to say this was the worst wind damage to crops and farm buildings that he has ever seen across the state in such a wide area,” Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds told reporters on Tuesday.

All corn for hunting season is being bought now on future contracts. It's going to increase until corn starts getting harvested. Once cutting starts taking place the future market will have a better idea of what's the total harvest will be.

Any corn you buy from now to Aug is last year's corn. As supply goes down price goes up.

It's hard to predict when each retailer/bagger will in crease cost because you don't know when each pallet was bought or what storage they have. Think of it like gasoline but not as volatile because it doesn't move as quick

Excellent explanation. Not even any of your usual numerous typos. smile Or maybe you are cutting back on all the energy drinks.
