I'm worried enough about the dogs getting hit by a Water Moccasin, with the creek right behind my back fence flowing longer than it ever has since we moved here, and you gotta post this?
Seriously, be careful.

It has more to do with the mild winter we had. Freezing weather kills a percentage of reptiles and amphibians every year. The percentage was very low last year. I've already seen more snakes, frogs and toads than I can remember.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

I thought maybe it was because of all the cover. Hawks and owls can't see them.

They are for sure moving alot. Woke up last night at 1:30 to my Lab making an absolute concert. Went out in the skivvies and barefoot and there was a 2 foot copperhead about 6 inches from him. Ran to pull on my boots and grab a shovel and that bad boy had already moved 30 yards in less than a minute. My stab with the shovel missed and i lost him in the dark. would have used my snake shot but I am inside city limits.

Nice. Haven't been since May and got 3 in one night in a 10 sq ft area right where I sleep. Got another the next weekend hiding next to a tree at the grill. Would have had more but using a spade shovel. Hopefully some were the same I missed a few minutes earlier. Were you looking for them or they wondered on you? Going out this week so hopefully don't see any. I have never seen them in 10 years until this year.

Had a rat snake waiting for me on the step of the cabin at the ranch last night? It was dark and I initially thought it was a copperhead. I've seen more varieties this year than the past 5 combined. At our place, before this year, if you saw a snake it would most likely be a rattler. This year coach whips, ribbons, rat snakes, Kings, etc are making themselves visible.

Years ago, I was down in LaSalle County turkey hunting and we decided to go cat hunting with the hounds. On the way to the ranch we killed four or five rattlers and I told my buddies that we should go back to town. They said that maybe the snakes would quit moving after it cooled down. After hunting most of the night, we ended up with a total of 13 rattlers killed and the lucky thing was, we did not get a dog bitten. Adios, Gary

Shredding the clover behind the house last week and shot both of these within about 30 minutes of each other. They were hunting all the mice and there was plenty of mice to be hunted. I think they are a really pretty snake and trying to figure out what I want to do with the skins. The other snake in the pic is a rat snake that was eating quite a few chicken eggs. Usually they get a pass and relocated but I've been after him for almost 2 weeks and finally got him.

Glad I finally bought some snake boots this year, jeez.
StraightG34, make em into hat bands. I've only seen rattlers done that way but I imagine copperheads could be done like that too.
