Last week we had the chance to get back down to Islamorada, where we lived for 5 years before moving to Houston. The last few years have been hard, we have been struggling to find a diagnosis for my wife's health problems, so there hasn't been a chance for a family road trip. Things have been better for her lately, and the opportunity to get her back on a boat and fishing was too good to pass up. The weather was perfect, and my old fishing partner was happy to provide the boat. The Mahi hadn't made an appearance yet, but the blackfin tuna and Mutton snapper obliged. We ended up with a nice box of fish to put in the freezer, but more importantly, the smile back on my wife's face was priceless. This is what it's all about.

Thanks, it was a great time. My buddy Joe (driving the boat) is recovering from cancer treatments, so it was good to see him smiling and back on the water too.

Thank you all for the prayers, I truly believe there is power in them. They are closing in on a diagnosis, leaning towards some form of Lupus or another auto-immune type disease. While these things aren't cureable, they should be able to treat and give her back some quality of life. The smiles on her face during this trip made it all worthwhile.

There is no place in the US to catch the types and variety of fish you can catch in the Keys. if you ever get a chance, go.

The first 4 years we lived down there were some of the best years of our lives. The last year down there was rough with several surgeries for my wife, and many trips to Miami, Gainesville and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore just trying to find the best possible care for her. She is a strong woman (she has to be, been married to me for 20 years) , and we will work our way through this until an effective treatment is found. Being in Houston has allowed her to be much closer to excellent doctors. Once she's back up and about it will be back to the outdoor life we both love.
