It took me a long time to find this fellow, I am sorry to say. I had to go back and review the video to recall correctly which tree he was behind. I lined on on the wrong landmark (from memory) and searched the wrong area first. Errrrr!

Once I lined up on the correct landmarks, recovery was quick. Unfortunately, the coyote was still alive and I had to finish him off with a second shot.

The Berger VLD-Hunting round impacted a tad low and left of my POA and went through the right shoulder blade, top of the ribs, through the spine (paralyzing the coyote), and through the top of the left side ribs and exited behind the right shoulder blade. I thought this was interesting - the exit wound was about the size of a nickel but under the skin, the tear through the muscle was about 1.5" and seemed very large given the size of the animal. However, there was actually very little blood around the coyote and before the finishing shot, no blood seen around the mouth, indicating that the lungs were not involved. Damage was primarily to just the skin, muscle, and spine.

It was a decent-sized yote and the landowner will undoubtedly be happy when he gets the news. dfwroadkill and I saw 2 coyotes come through this same area last week, so I know there is still at least one more still around. Ha!

I would say nice shot. Coyotes for me have been notoriously resilient to bullets. I have drawn fur and blood and meat but they do sometimes run off. At least you dropped this one and finished him.

Good work and keep after them. That rooted up area means you still have work to do banana

Good size yote!, they can sure be tough to spot when they fall in "stuff" in the dark!

BTW how do you like that RF?

I think the Sig Kilo 2000 rangefinder is very cool! It is the first, higher end rangefinder I have had. What I really like about it for my purposes is the autodimming of the reticle and range information, plus the real time (4 times a second) ranging where you can scan-range and see continually changing distance readings.

I don't shoot much over 400 yards and so the super long range capability is beyond my normal needs, but I still use that aspect occasionally for understanding distances to landmarks and such.

If you need a rangefinder, I think this is a really nice one to have.

What do you think of the AMR feature? I suppose .you have to buy extra dials for different calibers if I read the feature page right. I have that on my Bushnell 1600 and like it a lot, but my bushy is starting to struggle with old age.

I like the concept, but can't say that where I hunt that it makes a whole lot of difference.

For the most part, I don't need it either, but hunting Colorado, it is just more good info while in the field. Your right though, for the most part, it wouldn't make much difference, especially at short yardage.
