Anybody run these? I ordered 100 175gr .284 spitzers a while back and haven't had a chance to load them yet although they look alright. Was on their website today and ordered a bunch of .243 and .284 sp plus some 162gr SST's. At $.162/bullet shipped figured if nothing else I can use them for practice. Based on the ranges I hunt though I believe they should be more than adequate for shooting deer and hogs. That is not a whole lot more than half the cost of buying Hornady bullets off the shelf at Academy.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

Factory seconds usually just have cosmetic blemishes. The ones I have tried before ( Ballistic Tips ) shot just as well as unblemished and they should do just as well on game.
A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

...been shooting Nozzler blems since they came in cellophane bags & hand written paper labels. Have never had an issue with them, but then I am not and never have been into the +4-500 yard hole punchin' bidnizz.
Always in awe of the folks that can and do bang steel at will at the "not to be seen with the nekkid eye" distances though. Just never had the patience, motivation, time or bux all at the same time, to get involved...too many irons in the fire. I know that sounds like a Don Henly line that go's..." don't let sound of your own wheels drive you crazy" but it is what it is. Ron

I bought several 100 of the Hornady blems for my 270 Win a few years ago. I bought 130, 140, and 150 grain. I shot all 3 of them. They all shot just as good as standard bullets. But, the blem part was the cannelure ring. The cannelure location on the bullet would vary up and down the shaft of the bullet. Some would have the ring up high, and some would have it lower. Other than that, they shot about 1/2" at 100 for me. I also loaded a bunch up for a few hunting buddies, and they liked them also and shot good. For basic hunting and plinking, they will work fine. The varying cannelure would cause an issue with an inconsistent BC, so I wouldn't use these for long ranges.

I bought some of WC's nosler blems for my 270 off the forum a while back. They look just like most other bullets, but I have yet to load them.

Yes, those are my go to bullets. I always buy there. There is no difference as they are usually over runs. When partitions show up I'm all over them.

I believe most of the Midway factory seconds are Hornady. I have bought them a couple of times and they shoot fine.
I did buy some .243 65 gr BTHP's one time and all the tips were bent slightly. I never shot them and didn't bother to return them.

I was thinking Hornday when I ordered, but doesn't look like they build a 150gr .284 bullet.

Order came in, everything looks good and I'm ready to load some up. I'm stumped on the 150gr .284 though. Not a whole lot of people catalog that bullet/weight. Exposed lead tip with a cannelure just like pic on the website. SGK and nosler partitions don't have the cannelure. CoreLokts and Grand slams have a cannelure but don't have that much lead sticking out of the tip. Must be imports or something.
I even weighed one to make sure it isn't a Hornady 154gr sp. Weight came in at a hair under 150.

Looks like a secant ogive so it's most likely a Hornady interlock. Speer, Noler and Sierra have tangent ogives.

I use them all the time for hunting and close range (under 200 yard) paper punching, and all of them that I've tried have given great results. At first I weighed them and checked the length of each one until I finally realized that they were just as consistently consistent as the unblemished that I paid the premium for. Not a long range shooter, so I can't speak to how they perform at great distances.
