FS: Weapon of war and mayhem - $450 - Remington 1903
I'll accept blame for some of this calamity. However it was already drilled for a scope when I got it. I suspect this rifle spent some time as a XTC match rifle as sometime. It wore a Lyman XNB front sight (sold), and the receiver is drilled for a side mount aperture sight.
The C stock appears to be a real piece of WW2 wood that has been modified for match use. Mods include a rail for handstop/sling swivel, removal of buttplate and install of recoil pad, and an ebony grip cap.
The redfield Jr rail is a bit of my work. This is a M1903 receiver that is appearing to us as a 1903a3. The length of a 1903 redfield rail would not install with the 03a3 handrail, so I chopped a bit off in the front. Additionally the redfield rail holes did not align with what was already drilled and tapped on the receiver, so I welded up the redfield rail and drilled them to match. If I recall right, there is a single screw in front and single in rear. Not the best, but you work with what you have.
The scope, I believe, is a nice older example of a Weaver K2.5. That was my intention at the time. Now, looking at it, I see no markings. It is a fixed 2.5x, post and line reticle. Optically clear with some bits of dust. The bell has a couple small dings. Overall the body shows wear with brass showing through at the end rings.
The bolt handle is my most embarrassing work. I basically lost interest in the project prior to finishing. It needs more sanding, filing and finishing. I feel it is structurally sound. I can throw in an extra bolt body in case the next owner would like to take his own try at it.
The trigger is a commercial replacement. Marked Jaeger.
It shoots fantastic. Even as it sits, it would make a fine deer rifle. This rifle has many original WW2 parts, but it is what it is. I am trying to be honest and forthcoming in the description.
From ~20ft away it would pass for an 1903a4, but it will never be CMP games compliant since it is built on a M1903 receiver.
I have many more pictures available for those interested.
Asking $450 for local sale. Shipping can be discussed. I will ship only to FFLs, even if you live across the street.
