Was shredding again today. Before I started, the bobwhite calls was everywhere. Came home for lunch, three on my gravel road, seen five more on the crd. But, all the ones I seen were roosters.

The roosters can raise the first clutch while the hens sets another.

Aside from some catastrophic weather event, this year should be even better than last year. Fingers crossed for a few timely summer rains across the state.

Been a long time since I've seen any sustainable population of quail. I love to here them calling out. I was out in the Albany area not long ago riding horseback through the country and flushed out many healthy birds. Hope this is a good sign of things to come

I shredded this weekend. I saw lots of quaiI also. I noticed one when I was shredding really close to the mower. I backed out and looked. I had run over a nest with 10 eggs. I started to take them home and put in the incubator but I kinda picked up some branches and tried to protect the nest as much as I could. Maybe she will come back and hatch them?????

Doubtful with that much disturbance, unfortunately. Removing the cover from the nest will also make her easy pickings for predators. Best hope is she will initiate another nest.

Shredded my driveway this week. Had about 100 little baby birds running all over it. Fun to see them.

I also shredded my driveway recently. Lots of quail activity. Then to my dismay driving down it yesterday evening two hawk and a owl swooping down and poaching literally as I drove the length of the drive. I have watched quail be decimated by flying predators in dry years where grass is sparse but this I felt liable for. Any body not shredding?

Mr. ox, had two roosters running down my road today. You think the hens are still sitting?

I saw a decent size covey of Bobwhites at Lake Fork of all places. I have not seen birds that far east in several years.
